Manyland is not a dating site, by the way. The creator made that pretty clear and made some signs on Green Mountain.

as that is true that ManyLand is not a dating site, its not completely against the ToS, and the creator has also stated that signs and posts made by him are not official rules unless specified in the ToS, a confusion related to this lead to the ToS being adjusted to include that.

Back when you posted that it was true, now it has changed. Rank-5 makes up ~3%. Rank-2 and below is ~76% of active players. Being Rank-2 means you have logged in and done the tutorial. Rank-3 is the new middle-ground in the hierarchy. It used to be substandard when rank-5 was the standard. Nobody was above the standard rank except the devs. Nowadays ~24% of people are over rank 3, and rank 4 is an insignificant portion (~20 people) as its a wait-list for rank 5

Okay, what if 97% of people are just too lazy?

It took me two years to get ring rank to lose it a few months later. I've also seen people fail to get it after 4-6 years of trying, and this isn't uncommon. There is a large number of players trying to get Rank-5. Many of which have been trying for years.


Why does rank matter?

Rank-0 is a banned player. Rank-1 is either a guest account (an explorer) or a new account that hasn't completed the tutorial. Rank-2 is the most common but is relatively crappy with many restrictions. Rank-3 is normal. Rank-3 does not have anything special and does not have many limitations. Rank-4 is a wait-list for rank 5, and rank 5 has special abilities (Originally normal abilities). Rank 6->9 are unused, there are two rank 10s, and they are the two developers of ManyLand, Philipp Lenssen and Scott Lowe.


Do I need rank 5?

It Depends on whom you hang out with and what you like to do. If you want to interact with the mainstream community or have a lot of Rank-5 friends, then one of 2 things will happen if you don't have already have rank 5. You can get Rank-5 if the other ring ranks like you, and no significant drama sparks before you get it. In a case where you have beef with enough Rank-5s, you will probably get banned. Beef can be temporary and caused by drama, and the people who report you may have done it from emotions and regret it later. One problem you need rank-5 to report players or creations, as Rank-3s most likely carry no power in the algorithm whatsoever.


How do I rank up?

The only proven method to rank up is upvoting. How often you are online may also play a part. Upvotes only count with any significance if they come from a Rank-5.
