I think they're okay. Maybe it's just me, but the newer books each have a certain theme which takes up pretty much the entire book. In the old ones, there was a plot, but Greg had other things going on in his life. But, for example, in Big Shot, almost the entire thing is focused on basketball. I personally preferred when other things happened as well, but that's not to say they're not worth reading. Kind of linked to this is that characters aren't appearing as much as they used to. Rowley was only mentioned once (I think) in the latest book. Rodrick was mentioned once or twice. That's quite annoying too.
I think Rowley's books are a nice read because they're different but they're quite kiddy.

I know what you mean. I feel like overall it's starting to go downhill, but I agree the meltdown was one of my favourites. I've also noticed the earlier books used to have lots of different things happening in them, but these later books just have one thing. Yeah, like in the first 7-ish books the main topic of them was more general and could be about school/home/friend drama going on. But then more recently they're focused on one event that is usually themed.

I like this ‘new’ style the books have, but if you compare these recent books to the first few…the quality isn't the same.
