Dualbooting can't really mess anything up. Even if the bootloader got messed up (it shouldn't though), your computer will work fine, you just can't boot to the OSes on your disk, and you'll have to go in with a live Linux iso to fix GRUB.

nope, try 123 GB for each, more space for windows which needs it and less for linux which kind of doesn't.

Or… just delete Windows. Doing this will protect your privacy, and your brain. No more Windows updates breaking everything, no more restarting for them either! Far easier to code and compile, everything is easier.

Do be aware that some Wi-Fi hardware will have degraded performance in Linux. For example, In Linux my Wi-Fi speeds are terrible inconsistent. That's Intel making trash drivers. I hope to see some open source stable drivers for Intel Wi-Fi adapters!

That laptop is for school - I'm still going to be using this Mac at home. I'm not doing any sort of coding at school (other than Scratch). Also if all of a sudden I need Windows then it's best as a backup option.

MagicCrayon9342 said some Wi-Fi hardware. Not all laptops have Intel Wi-Fi adaptors, and of those that do, I don't think most will have great performance issues on Linux, or there would be a lot of dissatisfied people. For some laptops you do not need any proprietary Wi-Fi drivers.

(We got a second-hand laptop with an Intel Wi-Fi adaptor, and the speed is quite good as far as I'm concerned. The laptop is from about 2010, so it could be that drivers for newer generations of Intel Wi-Fi adaptors are worse, but it will still vary.

Nonetheless I'm glad I set the laptop up to dual-boot rather than remove Windows entirely, because we have an old Canon printer whose Linux driver doesn't work. So GNU/Linux fulfills all our needs except using our particular printer – but for a modern printer you don't even need a particular driver, it will just work out-of-the-box. But you might perhaps need to run some Windows software, or something.)

I use Linux (mostly on VMs). One of the computers takes 5 minutes to get to the desktop. The other runs reallllly fast.

Linux seems cool and I'd use it if more of the software I used natively supported it. (yes I know WINE exists but a compatibility layer isn't a solution I'm comfortable with throwing everything behind.) I would gladly dual boot but there's basically no reason to do so when A) I have no W10 install disk and B) what can't I do on Windows that I can do on Linux that would have enough impact to get to me switch?

My main issue with Debian is it's insanely old packages. The Testing ISO doesn't even install Debian properly, and last time I tried to do an in-place upgrade to unstable everything broke due to package failures.

Every Linux distribution has Wi-Fi problems, some distributions just have more of the problems than others. On every distribution, The Wi-Fi speed is inconsistent. It's full speed on boot, and quickly degrades if I do a task of any kind. Then I have to restart the drivers, get full speed, have issues, then repeat the entire process. Intel makes trash Linux drivers. Also, the Intel Wi-Fi drivers constantly put hex dumps in the TTYs, making installing Arch annoying.

Has anyone tried openSUSE (specifically Tumbleweed)? If so, how was your experience with it?

I tried openSUSE a few years back. It is basically Fedora but more like Debian. You choose all your packages in the network installer.

One reason is that it's fun to set up Linux.

Another reason is some things are more convenient; like I mentioned you can easily do things that on Windows you'd need additional software for, like copying a disk image to a USB drive, or searching for text or a pattern in several files (grep), etc. And when you do need additional software, and you know what you want, it's very quick and easy to get it with a package manager; no need to find the website or anything.

Windows considers itself corrupt if you install Linux, when it's not corrupt. It might be misleading in some cases.

Reasons to use Linux:

No bloatware!
No tracking and data collection!
Significant gaming FPS boost, since there is no random MS junk running.
Fully configurable, if you don't like it, change it.

There are many… many more reasons to use it that aren't listed here.

Here are some common misconceptions and misunderstanding about Linux you should avoid and ignore:

Linux is hard
No it's not. Pick a distro, boot, go through the installer. Done
