Do you have a slightly older computer? If so, one without systemd might be a good idea, except that there are fewer mainstream, user-friendly Linux distros that don't have it… (Earlier I mentioned Devuan, which is very similar to Debian; but many think Debian isn't quite so user friendly to set up. You can find other distros without systemd on DistroWatch; I think PCLinuxOS is quite reputable and user friendly.) Actually maybe I shouldn't really be suggesting this to a beginner…

Ubuntu is the typical very-user-friendly Linux distribution, so for example it makes installing Linux alongside Windows in order to dual boot very easy. It has variants with different desktops, like Kubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Xubuntu, and Lubuntu (listed based on more or less how lightweight they are, going up) – pick one of those variants if you have an old computer. (Apparently PCLinuxOS sort of does that also. I don't know what others do.) Manjaro is also meant to be user friendly. (Both use systemd.)

Most of the time it's opposite lol - lucky your school has Ubuntu, we have fake Windows 10 and real Windows 7 and XP in our school computers

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

It was the first Linux distribution I got to install. It's rather similar to Ubuntu, apart from the desktop environment, so it's also very user friendly.

I think people exaggerate the difficulty of using many Linux distributions. Manjaro, for example, comes with a graphical installer that will shrink your Windows partition for you like Ubuntu does (only difference is you just have to pick that option), and when installed it has a graphical package manager. Even Debian and Devuan let you use a graphical installer (and then you can use Synaptic of course).

no changes other than the included desktop environment and themes

ubuntu and debian are very different
mint and ubuntu can be considered different since the performance is massively improved
Elementary OS is Ubuntu + Custom UI
Pop!_OS is different than Ubuntu in several ways, but again its just a custom UI and custom apps. Still good though!
OpenSUSE is really just fedora but more like how you'd use debian.
NixOS is completely independent, it really is just an OS around a package manager.
Linux from Scratch is obviously independence as you are literally making your own distribution

The only distros that aren't just a fork of a fork with a custom UI in that image at least are:
Ubuntu
Fedora
OpenSUSE
NixOS
Solaris
and Manjaro (basically arch with a custom UI and GUI installer lmao.

Remember, stop distro hopping! Especially between distributions that are no more different than a custom desktop and theme!

Remember! Most distributions are based off Debian and Arch.

Also know, if you switch to Linux there is probably no going back. Not that you can't reinstall Windows, the fact you won't want to.
