The other day I had a dream I was wearing a fursuit. It seemed like a partial fursuit and not a full one, and it was of my fursona. Since I've never worn one before I couldn't have known what it's like, so I just felt the same as I normally do; the main reason I knew I was wearing one was when I took it off. I know it gets hot inside a fursuit, but how hot?

In somewhat related news, last Monday was a spirit day at my school where everyone dressed like an animal or wore animal print clothing. It doesn't have much to do with the furry fandom other than the fact that some people wore cat ears and the term “furry” was thrown around a few times.

That sounds like an interesting dream. About how hot a fursuit gets, I think it depends. If it is a kemono suit, then it is very hot due to it's dome eyes. small mouth, and big leg padding. Plus, if it had a less powerful fan, then that might make it hotter than one with a more powerful fan. If it is a partial with a big mouth, big eyes, and a fan, it wouldn't be nearly as hot.

Also, I really wish I could have been at your school that day. I would have worn my tail.

I’ve been working a ton on sewing PinkFire’s head today, and y’know I’m starting really dislike that cat-fox-hybrid. (I decided she looks more like a hybrid than a cat.) While I suppose this is my very first fursuit and I shouldn’t expect myself to be perfect the first time, PinkFire is looking very lumpy right now and it’s frustrating.

Wearing a partial would definitely be less hot than a fullsuit. In fact, probably the only part that would get really hot is the head. Although, based on what you're saying it seems like it would be hard to wear a fursuit without a fan.

Wearing your tail to school would have fit but people probably wouldn't know what animal you were. If you wore an entire fursuit to school it would probably be very interesting. Even if it wasn't against the dress code (it is in my school) people would obviously call you a furry, and you would need a lot of trust in your school to not bully you.

Like you said, this is your first fursuit and so you should expect to make mistakes. Even though I have no experience making fursuits, I would suggest looking for cat/fox characters that you think look good, and then trying to focus on what you like about them and translating that to how you make your fursuit.

I know fursuits are often confused with sports mascot costumes, but now that Halloween is getting closer I wonder if they could pass as Halloween costumes as well. When you think about it, a fursuit could also be seen as a very soft, very expensive Halloween costume. But now I also wonder if there's anything else furries do for Halloween. Do they wear their fursuit as a costume or wear a completely different costume? Do they have a costume that they put on their fursuit? That second part seems interesting.

Speaking of sports mascots being similar to fursuits, apparently they can get pretty heavy. The head alone of one mascot I looked at weighs 25 pounds, so I wonder if fursuits typically get that heavy.

Yay, I have finally finished PinkFire's partial suit, and just in time for Halloween! She isn't super good looking, but, I mean, she could have turned out worse. I'm just happy that she is done.

The fursuit looks great so far! Here are some of my thoughts:

The blue fur on the head looks like a different texture from the pink parts. Did you use a different kind of fur for each part?
One improvement I would make is making the depth of the eye shorter. (It looks like there's a long tube in between the eye holes and where the eyes actually are.)
The lanyard you're wearing looks nice. Where did you get it from?

That means soon you'll probably start working on the rest of the fursuit. Are you planning on wearing it for Halloween or do you have another costume?

A. The pink and light blue are the same type of fur, the light blue is just shaved. The dark blue is a different type of fur, though.
B. Yes, I made this mistake early on when making the fursuit. I'm not really sure how I can fix it now, but I will try to do that eventually.
C. I forget where the lanyard itself is from, I got it awhile back. The art on it I did myself.
D. I did where it for Halloween, but I got hot and tired quickly and had to take it off, even with the fan.

My fursuit armsleeves are so cozy that I must admit I've been just randomly putting them on when I'm cold. Also, I think I'll start on PinkFire's digigrade legs (I've decided she's going to be a 3/4 suit if I didn't already state that somewhere) on Thankgiving Break since I'll have the whole week off to work on them.
