I got a shiny Exeggcute a few minutes ago. I started an SOS hunt for it yesterday, and I caught it today. I wanted to replace one of my SOS mons with it, which means it needed to have Harvest (I think it's like a 1 in 8 chance or something) and luckily I got it!
Nickname: Palm Tree
Ability: Harvest
Moves: Skill Swap, Bestow, Worry Seed, Energy Ball

Eventually I aim to replace my whole shiny hunting team with shiny Pokémon, so I'm going to do a shiny Smeargle hunt next

Quick question, how do I add images at the bottom of my posts like everyone else here?

How do people aim for one specific species of shiny Pokémon & actually get it without encountering a shiny of another species?

Do shinies have any advantage over non-shinies, or are they just for bragging rights?

To me, Ultra Sun / Moon sound like the perfect shiny hunting platforms.

Get an image host, then add the images to your signature.

Certain methods of hunting will only get you one Pokémon. For example, masuda method (breeding two Pokémon from different countries) will always get you the female Pokémon you put in to breed (it's slightly more complex than that but with masuda method you can't accidentally get a different Pokémon). With soft resetting (which is where you save in front of a static encounter and reset the game until it's shiny), you can only encounter the Pokémon you are hunting. Pokéradar chaining (which afaik is exclusive to gen 4 and X/Y) involves searching for the specific grass rustling of the Pokémon you're hunting, so you'll get the one you're hunting if you know what you're doing.

Basically, for the most part, hunting methods involve chaining encounters of the same species in some specific way, e.g. Pokéradar, DexNav, Chain Fishing, S.O.S. Battles. Because of the nature of these methods, it's relatively easy to ensure that you will get the Pokémon you want. There are exceptions to this, though. When SOS chaining, certain Pokémon will call in more than one species as their allies, meaning you aren't always guaranteed the species you want. Random encounters are (as the name implies) pretty random in terms of which species you will get. There are ways to mitigate this, namely the “Repel trick”, but it's common in RE hunts to encounter one or more shinies before getting the species you want. I think this is known as “phasing”, although I'm not too familiar with these hunts.

As for the other question, no. Shinies don't have any competitive advantage, they're just for bragging rights. And because they often look cooler.
Personally, I'd agree that USUM are the best games to shiny hunt in since I prefer SOS chaining and it works for most Pokémon in those games. Plus they have the Ultra Warp Ride which can get you odds of 1/100 at best I believe. That said, lots of people prefer other games. Gen 4 are some of the most common games to shiny hunt in, but each game has its own merits. And certain hunts can only be done in specific games

Hi, I posted this in another Pokémon topic but I thought it might fit here too so…

Here's all of my shinnies.

I have Shiny of Skarmory it was my first shiny with random encounter, Lurantis, Dusk Lycanroc, also an Rockruff I'm gonna evolve into midday form, Sneasel, Riolu, Noibat, Latios, Reshiram, Meowstic both Male and Female (I got lucky with that one, I did the masuda method and first got one but in one of the left overs I got another)

And I have shiny Lunala and Zeraora from events.

Most of them I shiny hunted but some was random. I also have some a lot of shinnies from the ultra wormholes since they are so easy to get.

Oooh, I forgot to mention I have 2 shiny Eevee one of them I wanted to evolve to Sylveon and one I was thinking to evolve into Jolteon.

Also I did get a shiny Rattata in the Let's go Demo so I could not save it but I did take a screenshot of it.

Yeah, Victini is shiny locked and there haven't been any events. That said, I think it might be possible to get one through Pokémon GO. I'm not too sure

I just got a shiny Pangoro after a really short amount of time actually. Not as impressive given that it came straight after I spent an hour and a half searching for a Golett (not a shiny one) for a friend. I decided to SOS hunt it to level up my Phantump, since I wanted one anyway. Unfortunately it doesn't have it's hidden ability, but that's fine honestly.
Since I won't be using it for my team I won't bother listing its moveset and stuff.

I GOT MY FIRST SHINY FROM DYNAMAX ADVENTURES YESTERDAY!
It's Midnight Lycanroc, a good shiny and a good Pokémon. (By that I mean I like it, I think it's not great in comp)

After wayyy more shiny hunting then the odds should allow, I'm satisfied with that.

Awesome : D I've been shiny hunting Solgaleo on and off with a friend of mine through Dynamax adventures. It was only recently that I realised that shiny charm affects Dynamax adventure, and I don't have shiny charm on the profile that I was hunting on : /
Right now I'm trying to hunt a Bagon but it's got a 1% encounter rate so it'll probably be a while before I find one
edit: i hate websites that autocorrect : D into an emoticon ._.

Nice, Lycanroc is my fav rock type! Also is the Lycanroc forms version exclusive or not?
