They could be - but remember, topics here are supposed to be about things that you find inspiring, care deeply about, and really want to share. That's why we really like to see a well-framed first post saying what you find inspiring about the book/video/game that you want to discuss - and a good opening paragraph to start the discussion. If it's too shallow, it will likely lead to a lot of spammyness and probably get closed.

How come we can't talk about current news stories?
I remember some of them being closed on the old forums.

I've been listening to…
Ogre Battle // Queen // Queen II // Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Progressive Metal
Orion // Metallica // Master of Puppets // Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Instrumental
Damage Inc. // Metallica// Master of Puppets // Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal
Snow (Hey Oh) // Red Hot Chilli Peppers // Snow (Hey Oh) // Soft Rock, Acoustic
Who Wants To Live Forever // Queen // A Kind of Magic // Power Ballad, Soft Rock
I suggest you listen to…
For a influential playlist: Damage Inc and Orion. Both of these songs are part of the album that revolutionized heavy and thrash metal forever.

I just wanted to say sorry about the Quotes thread. I made a new one, this time called “Inspirational Quotes”, and now has rules and instructions to make the subject clear to everyone.

is it okay if I make a topic about how a thread in this section of the forums should start? i was thinking it would be some thing like:
“ When making a thread, you need to make sure it starts off on both feet, not just one. With both feet, you have both opinions stood out and clear without letting people know your opinion at first. Try to start it off by explaining the reasons of both opinions. With each post, you should appeal to the persons opinion and the opposite opinion. ”
Just something like that? It's the strategy I always use when making one to make sure feelings do not get hurt, but I want to see more topics like this.

Generally, if a topic involves opinions on here (aside from “i don't like thing” or “i like thing”, which generally doesn't get too out of hand unless someone is unreasonable) it shouldn't be posted, I believe.

I think we need more mods as a policy or something.

Would it be okay if I posted a thread about those Brazilian protests ("The Salad Revolution")?

Thanks for asking!

I'd be happy to give it a try - just be sure that you frame it well with a good starting paragraph that sets the tone of the discussion. Try for a balanced approach that respects opposing viewpoints

There's a rule that says

  • Don't post links to or have discussions about anything disrespectful or inappropriate for an all ages audience. We will remove or close all threads and posts related to these discussions.

Why is the Homestuck topic still open then? It has tons of bad language and stuff.

As long as they don't link to/discuss directly about the non-appropriate things from Homestuck, I guess it's okay.

Not according to that quote above. If that's true, they they should change the rules.
