hi

so the featured page has been kinda bad recently, and the st is kind of to blame

it would be cool if the st could hold a vote every now and then for a new featured project out of some they had selected, and the community could vote for it, the vote could last 3-4 days and held every week or so

i hope you agree thank

THe ST is kind of overworked, so you can't really blame them. And a featured project being “bad” is entirely subjective.

But I do like this idea.

If someone created a ton of accounts, they could easily make an inappropriate project show up on the front page. No support.

The project would have to be reviewed by the ST before it gets selected

As well as that, a few projects must be either hand-picked or randomly picked to vote on

The problem here, is that there's a set of attributes a featured project should have, and most of the time, people don't vote for what's actually good for the site. Example: the studio update. If people could vote on that, the scratch website would have a lot of problems.

Heres how i think it could work
CoolScratchPerson2596 submits BillyBobJoeCoolGamer's project into the proposing projects to be featured. If it gets accepted, maybe it would be added to some kind of voting system? Whichever projects have the most votes will be added to the featured projects.

This could probably be prevented by preventing New Scratchers from votin

Uh, problem. Most people have the capacity to be patient when they really, really want something.

Semi-support, while it improves the quality of featured projects, it would lead to a lot of backlash if Project A wasn't chosen and Project B gets featured instead.

What if the polls last shorter than 2 weeks then? Thats about how long it takes to become a Scratcher. Not to mention, you also need to do more things than wait, such as hearting projects, etc.

There are only 30-40 ST members so please don't blame them!

Yeah, a few months ago, somewhere in 2020 the featured project section had some good projects that were interesting and advanced - a lot of effort was put into them, but these days the projects are quite low effort, so I agree, some more advanced projects do deserve the spotlight more than any other low-effort ones. I don't wanna name the project, but a project where the only part where scratch was involved was only for sharing the project, all visible content on it was generated outside of scratch, and I don't get why the ST is featuring projects that don't show creative use of scratch to make projects, but non-creative use for only sharing it, those projects can be top-loved or remixed, for sure, but a feature on the front page felt like the ST were doing it against what they want the featured section to be.

Please give a reason why you support, this isn't a ballot box.

The problem is, the community will probably vote for a project that is already popular (as people know about that project) but scratch isn't really looking for those projects, meaning this feature probably won't be that useful. Putting on projects that the community already loves will just make it worse.

Actually, we can add rules that help with that. (:

Sorry, I forgot. Here is my reason. I think it would be a useful feature, because then it would be more likely for unnoticed scratchers to get featured.
