You know, if you don't want the search engine tracking you, try Safari

Like most Apple products, it's almost the best of the best

Almost, but Firefox and Edge are better.

Blink/V8 is way faster than WebKit/JSCore

Also being multiplatform is objectively a good advantage for Edge and Firefox.

Ocular doesn't have a house. Jeffalo does and he self-hosts ocular on a similar server to potatophant's

HOW!? How is chrome or edge faster than safari 14 running on an m1 mac? I got 233 on the browser benchmark - beat that and show me on an m1 mac running chrome or edge

according to this article: https://www.macrumors.com/2020/11/20/chrome-m1-macs-80-percent-faster/
chrome is around the 210 mark for m1 macs

why I don't use safari
I agree that safari is faster than chrome in general, but it only has a mac version. if you were to run it on windows it would be a lot less skewed as it has an unfair advantage. A part of why safari is faster is because it is a still-Mac app, meaning it has been developed in-house by Apple to run perfectly on Apple hardware. Proof that this is true is https://www.macrumors.com/2020/11/20/chrome-m1-macs-80-percent-faster/. The difference between the optimized for apple version of chrome and the not optimized version is enormous. The test you're showing was done 1 month before the mush faster version of chrome for macs came out.

It's also a lot less advanced(has less features) than browsers such as vivaldi or chrome. add this together and the difference would make it around the same as chrome for application responsiveness, and javascript. It'd still be plenty better in rendering things. The most important test is objectively speedometer and jetstream in which there isn't too much difference. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The point I'm trying to prove is that there isn't that they are both good browsers. I might seem like someone crazy about only using chrome but I actually use a different browser most of the time. I've talked about mac's unfair advantage and chrome's better mac version but I haven't really talked about why what's better. safari is fast, but it's not on PC. It also has less features and google integration. If you didn't realize already, google is being used practically everywhere. Lots of people use google's services and it just works better with chrome. Safari just isn't better for what I have. On a mac, google chrome and safari are both around the same with safari in the lead. In windows, safari doesn't exist.

You might be wondering, what browser do YOU use @-cloudgate- . I use Vivaldi. It's a little faster than chrome and crazily customizable. It has many tools that make it far easier to just to use. It's based off of chromium so you can use chrome extensions. I need extensions. Basically chrome, but better. The UI is new and does take time to get used to though. The speed-dial is amazing btw.

Also. why are we talking about browsers while we're in The search engine forum.
I use google for a few reasons
1.It has a extremely large database of websites with a extremely good search algorithm

2. quick answers. by quick answers I'm referring to these

although these aren't completely 100% accurate, they help a lot. Other browser have similar functions, but they really can't match up with google. People say this is a bad thing as this lowers the number of people coming to their website for answers if they can just find them at the top. And not everything at the answer boxes (plane tickets) is the cheapest. I don't really care as it doesn't affect me

3.The customize my search results and have a great autocorrect. The search results are tailored to me so I'll be able to find things better. although people think this is a bad thing because they track you and stuff. it's not like they're stealing your bank account or anything.

I don't use duckduckgo or things like that because they don't have as good search results/answer boxes.

Both WebKit/JSCore and Blink/V8 beat Gecko/SpiderMonkey, and by a lot. See the other posts in this thread, and the Browser Benchmark topic.

Mmm, don't you just love tracking software??
and with that setup you get the best of it
Yes, actually I don't mind the tracking, as it improves the software and databases. Plus, Google has all are information anyway so why worry?
Remind me to star this on ocular later.

and google has a HUGE index of webpages - so if you seriously want some advanced tools to find something specific on the internet you need to use google.
