Uploading Files does not work for certain songs >:(

My browser / operating system: ChromeOS 13505.73.0, Chrome 87.0.4280.109, No Flash version detected

I have a 5 minute song that took 4.2 MB. It didn‘t save properly. I‘m honestly used to this happening because of file size, so I reduced the file size/audio quality and made it 1.2 MB. I tried it and it didn‘t work. “Okay, that‘s weird.” I thought. So I cut it into 5 parts, each about 200 KB. Guess what? IT DIDN‘T SAVE. This is very annoying for me because i‘ve been working on this project for months and I poured so much work into it, and now I can‘t even have a soundtrack. If this doesn‘t get fixed and soon I swear I‘m quitting scratch

That's not normal. Make sure that it is that particular file that is causing your project to not save, and nothing else - check all of the files you currently have in the project, and try importing some other ones.

If you've eliminated all other possible causes, I ask that you upload the original 4.2 MB song to GoFile so that anyone reading this can take a look at it and attempt to reproduce the bug. (If you can't/don't want to use GoFile, let me know and I'll figure out something else.)

OK. I have some suspicions as to the cause of your issue - please try the following:
  • Download the project with this sound file in it.
  • Find the file and try to open it. If Chromebooks (which I have not used) are anything like Google Drive (which I have used), this should show a list of files inside the .sb3 file.
  • Inside the .sb3 file, find the file called project.json (in an alphabetical list, project.json will be at the very end) and check its size. Is project.json over 5 MB in size?

WOAH, okay…. I realized it somehow got converted from .mp3 to .wav….. that‘s probably why it‘s not working sorry.

A suspicion of mine:
I know it was an mp3 when I downloaded it. And I trimmed the content ON SCRATCH, which means it converted it to .wav when i trimmed it. As you know, (i hope) mp3 files are a lot smaller than .wav files. So this is still very annoying.

How do I know this?
Well, see, after I trimmed it, it wouldn‘t work. I still consider this a bug.

…so, did you project save successfully? Do you still need help with that?

I'd also like to note that Scratch's size limit for assets (sounds and costumes) is 10 MB for each asset - you shouldn't have any issues with anything smaller than that.

Try uploading the project and the audio (full) to TurboWarp, and downloading the SB3 file from there, and using the SB3 file to overwrite the current project.

You can't upload projects to Turbowarp, as it doesn't store projects, it simply fetches them from Scratch. And they can't save it on Scratch, because of audio file issues.

I'm not sure you understand correctly.
But I could be wrong.
