410 Errors
Well then, people need to learn to think when they see a 404 page. It can also mean it's gone. I bet most kids mistake it for THAT! I personally did when I was younger. That doesn't prove your point? The name of the error only tells you the basic meaning of the error. Both errors are actually very different. For example, would you guess that 302 Found means to redirect to another page? You would think that means that means that the webpage exists, but no, that's 200 OK.I did, it doesn't mean it has 2 meanings it means Gone=Can't Be Found Anymore.…I did. If it is gone, it can't be found anymore, so if you get a 404, and you knew that page existed, you know it is gone. And? Please read what they said.Still, if you think about it, if it is “Gone” it can't be found anymore.I'll just say, there is no need for a 410. What is wrong with 404 having two meanings? Many things have 2 meanings! 404 does well enough, let's say that. There is a need because 404 doesn't have two meanings and it never will.
404 will only ever mean “Not Found”
Just like 403 will only ever mean “Forbidden”
Or 410 will only ever mean “Gone”
HTTP Status Codes are designed to have just one meaning so a sysadmin or webmaster or end user in some cases knows what is happening.
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes
Again, please read what they said.

Should I use my simplified sentences again????That doesn't prove your point? The name of the error only tells you the basic meaning of the error. Both errors are actually very different. Your sentences were simple enough for anyone to understand anyway, I said “???” because I don't see the point you're trying to make.
Again, no need to be rude…
I don't understand why you are being rude.- Sheep_maker

TheAdriCoolManDude's point is that since a 404 error can also imply a page is “gone,” displaying a 404 page instead when a page is “gone” is fine.
Perhaps there's confusion because the OP addresses that point:
Perhaps there's confusion because the OP addresses that point:
A reason to add this is that it would help tell the difference between non-existent and removed content

What's the need for another error message? Scratch isn't about error messages. You didn't answer my post.Anyway, the 404 is just fine. Many people wouldn't know what it isSo? It's not like it won't have an error message.
I'm not replying again, because I'm getting tired of it.

Now that we're in the future, we have things that can inadvertently index deleted content and make it public, which defeats the purpose of deleting it. Spouting out a 410 might make this external software not index this content.

No support, this defeats the purpose of the 404 page. And is well, you could work out who deleted there account and what account got deleted by ST

And is well, you could work out who deleted there account and what account got deleted by STA 404 error simply means that the requested page doesn't exist (like scratch.mit.edu/nonexistant-page). A 410 would only mention that the content has been deleted, not be who or when.

a “404 Not Found” may be used instead.
If you don't know whether this condition is temporary or permanent, a 404 status code should be used instead. Why do we need to use a 410 error instead of 404 (they mean almost the same thing)? Since nothing is actually deleted, we actually don't know if it will ever come back, so 404 should be used instead of 410.
