Rankware Programming
Nothing is happening, this collab is (at least for the next few weeks or months) ‘dead’, which is a recognised stage in the lifecycle of collabs.
People loose interest and forget why they are doing what they are doing. Collabs give people a comitment, which they are usually not used to in scratch, unless they are experienced and possibly have some underlying reason why they do scratch, but these people are already in collabs, so any collabs with owners who dont have links to these people and/or are new to or reasonably inexperienced with collabs (including myself and I think letsplayally, who are the owners or Rankware) will loose momentum quickly, because interest stems from a short-lived excitement from the idea of using a new technique to possibly make a succesful scratch project which they believe will make them popular. A truely succesful collab will have an understanding on its purpous, it will be organised and have specialised members who know their stuff. It will be run by someone who understands collabs and has experience with them.
I read some artical on the scratch forums about collab ‘philosophy’ once, and it had an underlying message that the first and possibly second collab that a scratch user makes will have a dismal fate.
I know that for a fact. The first collab I made had a dismal fate. So did the second and third. The fourth, though, turned out to become pretty big, and I got some experienced Scratchers in it. It is called Multiplayer Media. Anyway, lets get back on topic.

I must warn you, I'm sort of moving away from scratch into Visual Studio using languages like VB and C++. I also have lots of schoolwork to contend with.

If we can grind any enthusiasm in our brains, it would be good to finish Fort Onslaught, or just do the bare minimum to get it to the status of actually being a game
We can also try and finish the Blaster game.

so, are we going to do anything? as far as I can remember, there was some backlog in that i thought we would have to sort out organisation and timing before we worked on a game, which meant I had to make a calendar/organiser program, but by the time I finished it, everyone has given up and left and I moved school so had loads of stuff to do.

I see. No projects to work on. Ok. We should get a new goal.

We can save rankware, as the organiser is finished I think, its just everyone was bored of it when i finished it. Anyone here who still enjoys scratch should definitly try and get back into rankware, if we all decide on a proper project. The incentive is that collabs make better projects as skills are shared, so you might as well not do anything on your own when you have a collab just waiting for you to do stuff with it. Also, this time round we must make sure we know what different peoples' skills are. Also, like before, could I continue doing all the art? Seeing as I was half way through doing art for fort onslaught when we stopped, it would be best for me to finish. Letsplayally, you seem to know a lot about where to find code that other people have done
so if I try and plan what we need, then you find stuff people have already made and make it compatible with one of our programmers, then our other members who are good at programming can help create new code for the game. Make sure to structure your code into modules (a group of code serving one purpose as one process, function, etc) and add a few comments to let other Rankwarers know what your code is doing.
TeeMee123 - Artist, chief idea hamster* and part-time code scaffolder + admin.
Letsplayally - Code gatherer, code-orientated idea hamster* (coming up with solutions to problems in code), code scaffolder and programmer + admin.
Honeybee and other rather unknown members - Tester and idea hamster*.
*Idea hamster: A term meaning someone who is employed to a company to come up with ideas .

hang on, sunnypiano, jasperjay and Tyman, what what specific job do you want to have? I mean I don't really want people to just have the job description of programmer, as you need to work on specific stuff. Letsplayally gets big important scripts out of the way (like cloud lists) and does admin, I structure the code a bit, direct the game and do the graphics and might occasionally come up with algorithms or complicated stuff with letsplayally, which leaves the fleshing out bit to you guys. Sunny, tyman and jasper, I think you should try and organise yourselves somewhat to complete all the tasks we need doing. I will put the tasks on the rankware organiser. So you should check it for tasks that need completing and then sign up for them and then clicks some ‘completed’ button when you have done it. I haven't done this task bit yet but i will try now
as it sounds exciting
