Good book, wait… GREAT book.

Anyone want to read vogon poetry 42 times?

O NO! THE ANSWER TO LIFE CAN BE USED AGAINST MEH!

*reads*
I now have 42 years to life on the 42nd planet int he 42nd Galaxy of the 42nd universe.
The answer to life, the universe, and everything but it's a step above saying it's the meaning.

Also 42 is incredibly overdone and only truly funny in context.
I still want to know The Question.

The one thing I found really funny out of it was the part where it says that “The Universe was created, and this angered a lot of people, so it is widely regarded as a mistake” or something along those lines.

Quoting abilities are impaired at the moment…

Unlike the thinking flowers, I think knowing the Question immediately destroys the joke.
(And the fact that there was probably never a true question because the joke isn't supposed to be meaningful so Douglas Adam's didn't need to have one)

also I think you just want the Universe to explode and be replaced with something even more inexplicable

Yeah, I suppose.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I have seen the Hitchhiker's Guide movie and am in the middle of the book. I love the line sort of near the beginning - “The spaceships hung in the air in much the same way as bricks don't.”

I'm reading ‘And Another Thing’. The series is great and the humour is never overdone.

XD I like the part where there was a fight about to start between to enemies unless one wouldn't take back what it said about the other's mother, and the war started because of an entirely innocent phrase Arthur said that traveled through time and turned out to be one of the worst insults in one of there languages.

In the end, the found out what it was and tried to start a war with the sector it originated from (or something like that), and calculated the size wrong so the entire fleet was eaten by a small dog.

I love this book.

Ah, The Hitchhikers Guide, the only book series I read every 6 months over and over again. I liked Agrajag, (that's how you spell his name, right?), and the vogon poetry.

You like reading Vogon poetry??? Please tell me you're kidding.

Anyway, I also like the part when the aliens are invading, and the humans act all shocked (well, they are shocked). Then Jeltz says “There's no point in acting all surprised about it. All planning charts and demolition orders have been on display in your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for fifty of your Earth years, so you've had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it's far too late to be making a fuss about it now.”

That made me crack up.

I like the that Zaphod Beeblebrox's father is Zaphod Beeblebrox The 2nd and his grandfather is Zaphod Beeblebrox The 3rd etc. because of a misunderstanding of space/time.

I loved the series. Up until ‘So Long and Thanks for All the Fish’. Then Dent and Fenchurch ruined it. I stopped reading after that. Why is it so hard to find a good sci-fi book that's completely clean? Ugh…

Thank goodness for Asimov…

Awesome series! I love the supposed proof that God doesn't exist because of the babelfish, resulting in man getting killed at the next zebra crossing.

Finally, someone said it!

soupoftomato wrote:

The Ultimate Question is: “What do you get if you multiply six by nine?”

And yes, it has been noted that 6*9 does not equal 42. That's part of the joke, I assume.
