Pixel art is messed up when imported into scratch - Please help
Hi,
I am learning pixel art, but when i make it in paint, it doesn't have transparency.
I thought that i could just upload it to scratch, fill in the white with transparency, and my problem would be solved.
But, when i uploaded it(It's a png), the pixels are slightly offset and some are missing! D:
Is this normal? Also, if you know, please tell whether you know if there's a way to have paint support transparency, as this would really, really help.

That shouldn't be happening. Do you have a copy of the PNG file uploaded somewhere so we could test?

Hi,That is odd. It shouldn't be happening, especially with a .png …

Anyway, in response to your question on MS Paint, it doesn't support transparency. You'll have to use another paint editor (ex. GIMP), or you could use the Scratch Paint Editor, which supports transparent colors. Here are the steps, if you're ever wondering:
1). Draw a line.
2). Pick the solid version of the color you want, and pick the blank color as your second one.
3). Using the paint bucket, fill your line in with a gradient.
Now you're done! You can choose the transparent color that you want. You should have something like this:

Actually, i don't.

also, to ernie and CN12, i know about that, but here's my problem:
- I need to be able to determine the resolution of my graphics, and scratch is set in 480 by 360, and i need 980 by 640(I believe).
I would use scratch for all my art right now, as i find GIMP way to hard to understand and other programs glitchy, but since i can't change the resolution, then i can't use it, at least for bitmap. Does that matter with Vector?

In Vector, you can't change the resolution, though you can get 980x640 images from it (with a bit of zooming, though that shouldn't be a problem due to Vector graphics retaining all their quality when zooming). That shouldn't be happening. Do you have a copy of the PNG file uploaded somewhere so we could test?

Still, why do you need a 980x640 image? Could you split it into four images that are 490x320, or maybe even 16 that are 246x160?
Also, a 980x640 image will not survive being put into Scratch. It's going to get shrunken to where it can fit on the screen, effectively making it…
480 pixels wide by 313.4693 pixels tall.
You'll already be losing a lot of quality from that alone.
So again, why do you need a single 980x640 image?

ErnieParke

Because it's not for scratch, but for iphone apps.

So you'll be developing for the iPhone? Are you doing it through being an Apple Developer, or some other method? In Vector, you can't change the resolution, though you can get 980x640 images from it (with a bit of zooming, though that shouldn't be a problem due to Vector graphics retaining all their quality when zooming). That shouldn't be happening. By the way, I'm also writing programs, though this time, it's for computers (both Windows, Mac, and Linux). I'd like to learn how to program mobile apps as well, though where to learn from?

Well, that explain the problem - your image is too big. What ErniePark said earlier is right: Scratch will shrink an image down to fit the stage dimensions. And it's not going to matter if you plan on going into vector, as the vector paintbucket fill won't work on bitmaps objects embedded in Vector mode. That shouldn't be happening. Do you have a copy of the PNG file uploaded somewhere so we could test?

If the plan is to simply just remove the white areas, it's not that hard to do in GIMP; you just need to add an alpha channel and set the paintbucket to color erase white colors. This tutorial explains it quite nicely.
