swc july 2021 - weekly #2

Welcome, one and all to our second weekly! I hope you’re enjoying these weeklies <33

This week we are doing a swc/scratch fandom themed weekly! This is going to be a ton of fun :D Ok since you have gotten a little over a week to get to know your cabin mates, leaders, cos, and other people in swc, you’re now going to create a swc fanfiction and other scratch themed writing prompts! We are going to have three activities in this weekly.

Our first mini activity: Project Editor Generator

Go into the project editor and generate three random sprites and a backdrop. Now, use those items to write a story featuring the sprites as characters and use the backdrop as the setting. This is just a mini warm up to get our fingers moving and scratch creativity flowing.

Here’s an example provided by the generous Bookie (@the-book-worm)

These are the objects that they got from the project editor:

My three images were a young boy, a building, and a U letter along with a cave background. I decided to interpret the “building” as a pedestal and the U as a golden treasure. The story I came up with is that the boy is entering the cave to look for a mysterious treasure “u” that no one has ever seen. The U sits on top of the pedestal inside the cave.

You must write at least 500 words for this section.

Next, we have: Cabin Characters

We all know the competitive nature swc always has. The constant fight between cabins to climb to the top. The brutalness of cabin wars. The fight of the “best” cabin genre. Now, take the cabins and imagine them as characters! What if these cabins came to life? How would they interact with the other cabins? Think about your enemies, neutrals, and ally relationships with the other cabins.

Perhaps you’ll write about cabins fighting during cabin wars. Is there an ally who betrays your trust? Is there an enemy secretly helping you?

What if these cabins fall under different tropes? Is there a forbidden romance between Hi Fi and Myth? What about an evil dark side that Non-fi has? Perhaps Thriller will have the best character arc to become a good person. hA! Maybe you’ll even make these cabins animals. As long as they are characters with distinct personality traits, it will be accepted.

Here’s a mini example Pi (@pitau) wrote with the Cabin Characters

Horror had made many “friends” before SWC. It had been easy - just one question and one response - and now they were tied together by a bond so strong it was unbreakable. At least, that's what they thought. All of them - Dystopian, with her burning eyes and grey skin; the magic user, Fantasy; and the other three - all of them thought they were so smart with their friendships.

That was their weakness.

Horror didn't believe in that sort of antiquated nonsense. Horror believed that friendships were for breaking. So that's what she did. Fantasy was one of them. Mercilessly, Horror stormed into Fantasy's living space - a little wooden cabin - and started destroying the furniture, the walls, and even Fantasy's beloved Point Total! Fantasy tried to use her powers - tried to protect her house, her realm, her kingdom - and failed. All she could do was look on in Horror.

Fantasy stared at Horror, fear in her eyes. “Why? Horror, why would you do such a thing?”

Horror turned and glanced at her. “Well… Why not?”

A crash, and a maniacal howl, and then everything went dark.

You must include at least two different cabins as characters in this story (You can do more! You could even include ALL the cabins <33) A minimum of 800 words for this short story!

And our final section: Swc: a Fanfiction

Now it’s your time to take the reins and write a fanfiction about swc! I will not be giving you any instructions other than that. The only requirement is that you write 1k words!

Jinty (@apart–) has graciously provided an example of a swc fanfic :D

The main cabin waits, nestled deep inside the heart of the forest, enveloped in a canopy of trees. One single beam of sunlight peeks through a gap in the forestation, illuminating a grassy patch at the foot of the stairs up to the main entrance. Two campers sit cross-legged on the ground; one wears the signature charcoal grey of Mystery, while the other is dressed in the various shades of red and black that signify Horror. They’re both focused on the piece of paper in front of them, sometimes muttering to each other, but most times just sitting quietly.

As they work a sudden commotion seems to arise inside the main cabin, sounds of laughter and glee pervade through the thin walls, drifting through the air like the saccharine birdsong that trickles down from high above. It sounds sweet, endearing almost, until all of a sudden the front doors are shoved open and out burst three campers. Muffled shrieks and accusations of betrayal follow them through the entrance and into the forest clearing.

With a start the first two campers sit up, throwing scornful looks at the other three.

“Bakie, Alyelle, and Birdi…” The horror camper deadpans with a knowing, yet exasperated, sigh.

The mystery camper shakes her head, watching as Bakie leaps above Alyelle and Birdi, flattening them both in one fatal bellyflop. Alyelle shrieks, waving a fist in the air - but Birdi does it first and her fist stretches out higher, “Hah! I win!”

In the corner of Birdi’s eye she sees a match light up, and now there’s a small flame flickering just inches away from her face, “I do, I always do.” Alba breathes.
Here are some questions, thoughts, ideas that you can take inspiration from:

What is your cabin leader like? Are they chaotic? Laid-back? Mysterious? You could write a story where your cabin leader is the main character. (I’m sure your leaders would love to read that) Or how about: imagine that swc was an irl camp, how chaotic was trying to find your camp counselor (your leader?) in the rush of 800 people. Maybe you’re taking the people apart of swc and putting them in a more traditional camp together. Word wars are now canoe races, cabin wars are now capture the flag competitions. What else can you come up with? If you wanted, you could even continue the cabin characters prompt for this part, and just write an additional 1k words on it ^^

This section must be 1k words. In total the whole weekly has a minimum of 2,300 words. You must show proof of your weekly in order to gain points. Once you do, you will gain 5,000 points for your cabin!

You must include all three sections to gain points, the Project Editor Generator, Cabin Characters, and Swc: a Fanfiction. For the Project Editor Generator, please also include what objects you got!

Remember: you must show proof of ALL parts of the weekly. Failure to meet the requirements, and/or if you do not do the weekly correctly, you will receive no points. (so make sure to read through the instructions! Also, if you have any further questions, either ask your leader, in the main cabin, or one of the co/hosts) You can, of course, edit and fix your weekly to gain the points; but this must be done before the weekly is over.

EXTRA CHALLENGE: Collaboratively work with your whole cabin to write a theme song for your cabin. (meaning- do this with your cabin together :D this is not individual work) It’s time to show some team spirit! A cabin may only receive points once, but feel free to write multiple theme songs if you want.

You must make the song at least 200 words, but 500 points per cabin if y’all do this challenge!

If you have any further questions, or clarifications, ask your leader or any of the co/hosts.

This weekly ends 7/17/21 11:59pm EDT.

same as the points everyone else is getting ^^ (you will however gain more points for your cabins for the word count portion, if you write that many words)

reminder for everyone that if you submit at the last minute, make sure you've included everything needed because you won't have time to fix it if you missed something!

--CherryCloud-- wrote:

the same amount as you would otherwise! but every word your cabin writes will be worth one point at the end of swc, so you could take that into account ^^

XxLion_PrincessxX wrote:

you can do whichever you prefer! creating a forum or posting in this forum would probably be easier though, because you won't have to format it for a project or worry about the character limit for project instructions/notes and credits (5k characters each)
