Merging shapes in vector mode

Hello, I am looking to make some animations with scratch.
I am making my sprites in vector mode, and I have two circles that I want to merge together.
I believe that in previous versions of scratch it was possible to shift-click a reshape point to split the shape.
You could then drag the new points to merge together the shapes.
I have tried this in scratch 3.0 but it doesn't seem to work.
Have the shortcuts changed? Is this no longer possible?
Thanks

You can click the “mouse-pointer button” (the top left control on the right) and highlight the area you want to merge.

Here is a picture of what I want to achieve.

It is from a book I borrowed from the library. The book is updated for scratch 2.0.

That's what I thought. I haven't found a way yet to do this in Scratch 3.0. One potential workaround is to use the line tool to draw a straight line from one point to another, connecting the two shapes and effectively merging them. Then delete/recreate points as required.

The point within the line-created sprite can be connected to another line-created sprite by connecting the two points. Use the Fill mode as usual.

nooooooooo
