Don't you hate it when someone hacks your projects?
Don't you hate it when someone hacks your projects? I find it really annoying! I go through all of that trouble to make an awesome project, and then someone just comes along and hacks it to make it super easy, sometimes even sharing the hacked project for everyone to use! Don't get me wrong, I'm tempted every day to do that! But still, the ability to hack a game takes all of the fun out.
But what about the users who want that? What if I want to post a project, and have people remix it? Well then, I have an idea! What if, at anytime on your shared project, you could open a “Settings” window? This would have 2 checkboxes; one would have, “remixes?” next to it, and the other one would have, “Shared remixes?” It's kind of self explanitory. That way, you could allow someone to remix the project, or to share their remixes. It might also have a, “Only friends remix?” box, so that you can allow only friends to remix it! That way your projects would be safe from hacking, or from posting hacked projects.

Hacking isn't the word. That's remixing to create maybe an easy, no death mode and that's totally fine. The idea behind scratch is that anyone can see how projects were made and remix them. It's no fun to deny people the right to look into how games are made.

The “Share” part is not just about the project, but also its code, the way it was made.

Disallowing remixes has been suggested many times, and will not be implemented. If you do not want people remixing your projects, then do not upload them on this website. Projects are distributed under a creative commons license, which allows for remixing.
If somebody makes a game really easy, they are taking the fun out of beating it, and only cheating themselves.

Hacking is not what you call it. And I'm sorry, but I don't support because of all the reasons said above.
. Besides, sometimes creating a no death version would require a generous amount of change in scripting. I do sometimes find it annoying that I rarely find a remix that has a very small/no change such as making some things look different, but I will have to learn to live with it. Except for when there is no change, then I can flag it.

I sure do love have the only argument against disabling remixes is “Scratches motto is …” because what really matter is if it's the right thing to do. I think Scratch should at least take the absolutely necessary step that is to disable making projects using remixes. “See inside” should stay required for now, but copying other user's projects is in no way OK. I'm not going to hack Scratch and change it, I'm just going to say that the remixing system is absolutely terrible and should be fixed. Thank you for reading.

I absolutely concur that remixing is a great thing, and not only helps users learn scripting, but also get a feel for the community.
However, the amount of projects that I see that are mere copies is shocking… D:

I feel exactly that way… What if a dialog box popped up and saysI agree.I sure do love have the only argument against disabling remixes is “Scratches motto is …” because what really matter is if it's the right thing to do. You are about to share this project with the community. Anyone can see it. Are you sure you want to continue? Project copying is not allowed, so please make a change before sharing this. If you have already, press Yes. If you have not, press No and make a change.? Or a better idea is to have it sense if there is no change and if there isn't, this dialog box pops up:
[Yes] [No]
When you press see inside and then press remix and then press share, what happens is that you make your own version of a project. That is called “remixing”. But sharing a remix with no change is not allowed, and we sensed that this project has no change. Please make a change before sharing this project. Or you can press “Delete” to delete this project and return to the original.
[Okay] [Delete]

Are exact copy remixes of projects actually against the rules? Because people have been making dozens of exact copies of my games for years.

Hmm, good points guys. I just don't like it when someone remixes my project, and re-shares to make it super easy and unlocks all of the extras. But you have valid points, and I respect that.

Don't worry about them. They should learn what a waste of time playing a game then cheating is. Hopefully sometime soon.

Yeah. I think Scratch should ban plagarism of different projects (believe me, I saw some).

That way your projects would be safe from hacking, or from posting hacked projects. As a number of people said, Scratch is about sharing and remixing. I learned about Scratch from remixing. I found a maze game, and decided i wanted to make it better, so i tweaked the scripts and changed the colours and stuff. This took quite along time, because i was a beginner with Scratch and my Raspberry Pi kept crashing when in full screen mode! I bet all the greatest scratchers learnt from remixing! As on some video games(like LBP2) you see someones level they have made, you really like the car thats in it and want to use it for your own level. But you can't use it because its part of a bought pack and the level is locked to see inside! Yes i agree, it is annoying when you tryed hard on a project, but all the views go to a remix of your project, but with all the extras unlocked. Most inventions are ‘remixs’ of other inventions, like an electric printer is a remix of a old wooden printing press. So yeh, i don't think the ST are ever going to have a box to stop remixing.

I think the system should check a remixed project to see if there have been any changes. If not, the user should get some instructions on how to click the Star and Heart on the original project instead of remixing without changes. Also, some instructions could be given on how to put projects you like into studios.
Maybe this would cut down on the blatant theft of projects.
