Scratch will then look up what profile is assigned to that session ID and add it to the database.

Unfortunately, your browser can forget your session ID or it can expire. One reason why is that your session ID is stored in a cookie.
If your browser is set to clear cookies when you close it, you block cookies, or you manually clear them, you will be logged out. Also, cookies can be set to expire. Looking at the scratchsessionsid cookie, it seems to expire every 2 weeks.
