Why do the community guidelines say pretending to be seriously ill is not allowed?
Be honest.
It’s important to be honest and authentic when interacting with others on Scratch, and remember that there is a person behind every Scratch account. Spreading rumors, impersonating other Scratchers or celebrities, or pretending to be seriously ill is not respectful to the Scratch Community.
Is this an actual trend or something? Pretending to be ill?

I don't know if I'd call it a “trend,” but there are some people out there willing to do anything for attention, even pretending to be seriously ill. I'm assuming spreading such rumors were banned to prevent attention seeking / preventing drama from starting.Be honest.

GG: though i dont think its an especially widespread trend, a few people have pretended that sort of thing over recent years, yes. its there to discourage that behavior; the scratch team cant 100% prevent anyone from deciding to make things up, but making clear that it is not something good and is disrespectful will hopefully help at least a little!

It's not widespread, it's just something that had to be addressed. I've seen someone before that was begging for followers because they were “terminally ill and dying next month” and that their mother's only dream was “for her son to get 1000 followers on Scratch”.I don't know if I'd call it a “trend,” but there are some people out there willing to do anything for attention, even pretending to be seriously ill. personally i think people like this are toxic, relying on other's sympathy to get attention is the lowest of the low, but they are kids after all

Why do the community guidelines say pretending to be seriously ill is not allowed?
It's happened before, but I've only experienced it happening once. Regardless, I think the ST just wanted to make it clear it's not cool to lie about something like that.
Off-topic: My only project that would have qualified for getting on the front page was about one of these situations and my group's analysis on the misleading nature of the situation. It seemed to have gotten NFE'd; I don't think it made it on the front page.

If you don't like a topic or something and you want to lie about it, I suggest you just don't respond and maybe say “I'm not into that topic” because people here on Scratch are usually nice and they usually will avoid topics that other Scratchers/New Scratchers don't like.

It doesn't happen enough where I would call it a “trend,” but evidently it does happen enough to the point where we decided to update the Community Guidelines for this.

If people see that you're ill, they could give you free followers and likes.

Not a trend. Scratch will ban as it is against the guidelines of “manipulating the community”. And talking about serious health concerns like @nedliclan* did will end up being banned. As it “scares tiny kids”.

I've seen someone before that was begging for followers because they were “terminally ill and dying next month” and that their mother's only dream was “for her son to get 1000 followers on Scratch”.whoever said that, is clearly lying. their mother's only dream probably would be for their son to survive, and not 1000 “fake internet points” or whatever.

I've seen this happen on Scratch a couple times, but it's pretty common on other websites which may have also inspired them to add this.

They probably just needed another example for “Be honest”; it's the shortest paragraph in the entire community guidelines.

whoever said that, is clearly lying. their mother's only dream probably would be for their son to survive, and not 1000 “fake internet points” or whatever. There are a lot of people on other platforms begging for “subscribers” or “likes” or “upvotes” and i can't get it over my head. Why?

I think it's because a Scratcher was pretending to be seriously ill, and they actually said they will die in 4 weeks. It turned out to be a lie and they were just doing it for attention and follows.

Yeah, I guess so … as Reev0102 said, this people must've faked being ill for attention, so they decided to update it.

This is probably just an example of being dishonest.
Also, some people might pretend to be ill to get attention, and get loads of kind comments, like how people on Social Medias sometimes say they are going to delete a post, or video later to get lots of attention telling them not to delete it.
I've also heard people saying stuff (not just on Scratch, other children's websites as well), that they - and sometimes family members - are terminally ill, or have a very bad illness, and that if they die, they want to reach a certain social action (likes, followers, ect.) count.
