You have to have done a neutral route before doing a pacifist route.

Not exactly. To do a pacifist route, you must first have done a neutral route since the last True Reset. (A True Reset happens after a Genocide or Pacifist route. If you haven't done either route yet, then you just have to have done a neutral.) You can do a neutral without killing- which is what you're about to do. After Asgore, you'll fight Omega Flowey, and you'll get the credits. However, after the credits, Flowey will be helpful and explain what you now have to do- press CONTINUE. After continuing, you MUST backtrack to the hotel- if you re-approach Asgore, you'll just refight him, though I don't think you can refight Omega Flowey. Once you've backtracked, if you've done both the Papyrus and the Undyne hangouts, Papy will call you when you walk along the CORE Approach bridge and have you visit Undyne, then she'll give you a letter for Alphys and you'll be on the pacifist arc. You'll take it from there Otherwise, do both hangouts, then Undyne will give you the letter (or give you it at Sans and Papy's if your inventory is full), and you'll still start the arc.

Why does this work if you have to complete a Neutral to do a Pacifist? From what I know, it's the following (intentional) feature: Beating Omega Flowey and seeing the credits marks you as having done a Neutral, but back at the menu, you can still continue from your last save, before Asgore. Same result as doing a neutral, then resetting and doing a pacifist, but you don't have to reset. Makes sense?

Yep!! I did a neutral route on my first playthrough because I accidentally killed Toriel, and I didn't fight Asriel in the end. True pacifist is indeed the only way to fight Asriel.

Can confirm that you can't fight Omega Flowey twice without a True Reset. He knows the souls will rebel, so he doesn't bother.

(also, am I the only person who likes to distinguish between a ‘normal’ neutral route and the type of neutral route outlined in this method? I like to call it ‘flawed pacifist’ cuz iirc thats what the wiki calls it lol)

After that, you go through the true lab, which causes you to learn about chara's death that was foreshadowed before you fought asgore in the neutral route, and how flowey was created. While you were in the lab, flowey manipulated papyrus into gathering everyone in one place so he could steal their souls, as well as the human ones. This causes you to fight asriel/flowey and SAVE the world, your friends, and asriel.
