Making a difference: Help me stop f4f

A few months ago, I learned about f4f…
And I am AMAZED seeing how many people do f4f!!!!!
If you don't know what f4f is, it's something that people do to get followers. To do f4f, people ask somebody to follow them and then they follow that somebody.
f4f means follow for follow, now that you know what f4f is….
let's try stopping f4f.
We could create projects and studios and stuff like that to spread the word.
Also we could try to tell people not to and report or block people who do it!
I have made a studio and just write a comment on my profile if you want to join the studio… or you could write a reply on this forum to join the studio. I will try to add you.

This is what people have said in a forum about f4f:

It could be “good” in some way, because it might make new scratchers feel good and because it can be a potential way of making friends. But the Scratch Team highly discourages F4F, and lots of people get annoyed by F4F- some people even report F4F comments.

All F4F does is increase a number. If you did F4F with 1000 scratchers, you would have 1000 followers. However, that is just a number, and the people with who you did F4F are very unlikely to often check out your projects- so even a guy with 500 followers would be more famous than a person who did F4F with 2000 scratchers. People seem obsessed with that follower number, it's like “who can have the highest number”? F4F does not make you more famous, it's ineffective.
Your question is debatable: F4F is neither good nor entirely bad (it's a pretty subjective question, it depends from one's point of view). It could be “good” in some way, because it might make new scratchers feel good and because it can be a potential way of making friends. But the Scratch Team highly discourages F4F, and lots of people get annoyed by F4F- some people even report F4F comments. If I were you, I would definitely avoid F4F to avoid getting in any trouble.
That being said, I would discourage F4F.

There is no objective definition for “good” and therefore no right or wrong answer to your question, so I'll just give you my own opinion on it.

I don't like F4F. It over-emphasizes quantity over quality, prioritizing the boosting of some number that has no bearing on your actual worth rather than the creation of high-quality projects and the development of an actually dedicated group of followers who appreciate the work put into them. Yes, you can potentially get many followers in a short period of time. Yes, you might gain some limited attention from some other people. But in the end, is it really worth it? The people you do F4F with, the people you give follows to at almost no cost to them, view you just like that: a F4F tool, a way to quickly gain followers at almost no cost. Do they actually check out your projects? Do they actually care about you? No. They get the follow from you, and they forget about you. A F4F'ing user can boast that he has 500 or 1000 followers all he wants, but in the end, that's all it is. A boast. Empty words quickly dismissed when none of his projects have more than 5 views and all of them were thrown together in 5 seconds. Every second spent finding a willing user could have been a second spent on fixing bugs. Every second spent clicking on the follow button and waiting for the receiving notification could have been a second spent on polishing up graphics. Every second spent F4F'ing could have been a second spent on perfecting a project, on building a masterpiece that instills a sense of pride into its creator. Even if it takes a year instead of a day to gain five followers, those five followers you spent a year earning will be the ones who check out your projects, the ones who truly value what you do, instead of just five changes of a number, five extra squares on a webpage that are soon buried away and forgotten. And in the end, you'll gain more personal satisfaction from it as well.

But I mean, that's just my own opinion. You're entirely welcome to reject or accept it.

It's not against the community guidelines. I don't know where you got that idea, but it's false.

Well this guy on Scratch told me that. Oh well. I guess it's not but f4f is still not a good way to make followers, yea sure you get tons of followers but you're not working to get them. You're just typing out some words and getting people to follow you.

F4F isn't really an issue. It's not like the people who do F4F are going to attack me because I don't do F4F. (that would be scary)
