Support. I 100% support it. All the people who say it's the person's profile don't see the other side of the coin: it's also the commenter's comment.
I think so, too.

About your idea inspired by Twitter,
I'm sorry I can't give you enough comments, because I'm not familiar with Twitter.

It can't be a solution.
My suggesion is concernded with incompleteness of reporting system.

The following is a little off-track…

I have ever tried to salvage deleted comments by “Contact Us”, I have never succeeded.
Of course, there is no explanation of the reason from the ST.

Currently, though it is easy to delete or report others' comment, it is very difficult to recover it.

It may be because the ST are so busy.
And it may be because they depend on machine translation and can't understand the nuances of Japanese.

My next post may be tomorrow, due to the time difference.
Please don't stack so many opinions difficult to reply to.

I'm not quite sure what the last part of this sentence means, but I have in fact had my comment deleted before. Did I feel rejected? Was my voice silenced? No.

People can delete comments on their property if they want to. Also, 90% of the comments I make I forget that I made them until I get a response. So if they were deleted, I'd probably just not notice.

It's really not a big deal. Scratch Team should be using their resources on crucial fixes, not on removing features and causing more conflict between them and the community. Most of Scratch already has a bone to pick with ST; we don't want to summon up another wave of rant projects and mass reports.

It is a your case, not mine.
If it is light enough to forget it, I recommend you not to make comment others.
Anyway, the point is some people may not care about it, on the other hand, some people may do. This is a fact.
Then it seems to be that the people who don't care about it are rejecting this suggestion and the others are accepting this.

As I'm repeating, I can understand opposite opinion, too.
However, since you aren't a member of the ST, you can't judge it.
It is what the ST should judge.

I'm unsure what you mean by “light enough”, but the comments I was mostly referring to are comments saying that I like a project, or something similar. I have a lot going on IRL as well as Scratch, so I don't remember everything here. Doesn't mean that what I say doesn't need to be said! But it also doesn't mean that it has to be said. Someone can delete my comment if they want to.

You just admitted it yourself. If the suggestion doesn't benefit everyone – if the suggestion removes benefits – it's not worth it.

No thanks.

My brother was pretty recently getting harassed by a person who was spamming a location near where we live (basically doxxing), and it was incredibly helpful to be able to remove the offending comments from his profile. If we had to rely on reporting the comments, it likely would have been a while before an admin saw the report and was able to delete the offending comments. Just because you have a few hypothetical bad use cases with the feature doesn't mean it should be completely removed.

Did your brother make sure to report the comments before deleting them? The Scratch Team would probably take something like that very seriously. You should tell a parent/guardian about it (if you haven't already) and might want to consider using Contact Us.

well I guess it's subjective because I absolutely feel silenced when my comments get deleted.

I understand everything. It means to make the report form “better”, in this case, longer to fill out. Nobody wants to spam the Scratch Team's messages, but without deleting anymore, you kind of have to. Reported messages, if reported for a reason like “Cleaning out profile”, often won't get deleted. Only innapropriate messages will.

No support for #1. Turning off commenting isn't a proper solution- it prevents future clutter, but if you want to get rid of existing comments that don't violate the terms, then too bad. For example, I might want to move a collaboration thread near the bottom of my profile to the top by deleting other messages (ex. “Thanks for helping me!” “Your shop order is completed!” “Hi!”). If I disable commenting, then I can't reply to the collaboration thread; if I can't delete other useless but harmless comments, then it's harder to reply. That was a very specific example from personal experience, but I'm sure it's applicable elsewhere.

Thanks for the concern. We've been in pretty constant contact with the ST and the user in question who started the whole kerfluffle is restricted from creating new accounts. We have an email record of the threat comments if we ever need to escalate things (and I really hope we don't.)

i don't support getting rid of the delete button because so many people would feel so much more comfortable being able to own THEIR space, their profile comments. it's like if someone comes up to my mailbox and puts something that says “write me back so i feel nice” but i don't want to do that so i throw the piece of mail away. an alternative would be to call the authorities to get rid of the message, but that's overboard and should be used for more dangerous messages. i could write back, but i don't want to do that and don't have the time. i'd like the ability to delete messages, e.g. throw them in the recycling bin, but i don't want a notification going out to them saying “oh this person doesn't care about you because they threw your message away.” i think this logic can be applied to scratch, and i think the amount of people who feel comfort in the control of their comment section outnumbers and outweighs the people who think deleting comments is silly and not representing free speech. i also recently deleted some comments asking me for f4f, because i don't want people to see that and think “oh i can do f4f with this person because they did it”. scratch does say that f4f isn't against the guidelines, but i'd rather be able to take a little bit of control than be flooded with f4f messages for the rest of my scratch accounts life because it sparked from one person, and i can't delete it. you say it's preventing freedom of speech but really on their own profile they should have the freedom to keep and get rid of whatever they want. also i do agree that the report button and options on profile comments need reform. that is something i do support

#69:
I'm just suggesting my opinion.

On the other hand, you seem to be concluding by yourself as if you were an ST member. (e.g. you said “proved”)
I disagree with such attitudes.
Do you say “me too” again?

I'm sorry I can't reply to all the posts.

Some people are still misunderstanding.
As I mentioned at #1,
when we report a comment which we have delete permission, the comment is immediately deleted.
It doesn't take time.

For your reference,
prior to creating this topic, I suggested this opnion at the Japanese Forum, but there was no objection.
This fact may mean it depends on users.

The arguments have matured enough.
I don't think we can conclude this argument by ourselves anymore.
I hope ST members come here.
