Cantonese should be a language for TTS/ Speak Cantonese Campaign

Please note that Cantonese is a dialect. Don't confuse it as an accent.

Seriously, I have checked, not many Chinese projects are in CANTONESE. Even those about Cantonese stuff, like TVB, are using MANDARIN.

So, I request that Cantonese be added to TTS. That way, the mothertounge of the the Chinese will still be preserved.

PROS:
- Cantonese came before Mandarin, so the original could be preserved.

Hawk Gong Dong Wah (Learn Cantonese!)

Also, I prefer traditional Chinese be put above SImplified for language preferences.

NOTE: I am suggesting traditional Cantonese, not the Taishan variant.

Until the 19th century, Cantonese history was largely the history of Guangdong and Guangxi provinces.

Who cares? Some Chinatowns, like the SF one, or ones in Malaysia, Pelating St., for example (for Singapore, Mandarin is predominant), have a majoirty of the population being CANTONESE.

Most Chinese diasporas are consisting of a majority Cantonese, (Taiwan doesn't count) only Mainlanders make up the predomanent Mandarin population, or some countries attempt to completely ignore CANTONESE and encourage MANDARIN more.

Oh, and if you're in to modern wuxia, such as the Chinese Zodiac, let me tell you, Jackie Chan is Cantonese.

I think this would be a nice addition: they have both major dialects of Spanish and Portuguese, so why not Cantonese Chines? (By that logic they should have British English as well.)

Yeah, dialect differences.

About British English, though, it's an accent difference , not a dialect difference.

First of all, no, it's a dialect. There are several differences between British and American English.
Second of all, if we're talking about TTS, isn't accent pretty much the only thing that matters?

There are syntactical differrences?

I don't know if “syntactical” is the right word (an article used it to describe the differences) but there are some differences that aren't vocabulary.

All of them are interchangeable spelling variations which don't need a separate language.

It's not only spelling, there are also a lot of differences in the vocabulary of the two. For example, aubergine vs eggplant, flat vs apartment, football vs soccer, et cetera.
Also since this suggestion is about TTS, only the accent really matters.

There are vocabulary differences for very small regions (I and pretty much only people in my county call highways “thruways”) and pretty much every person on the planet.

that… still doesn't change the fact that british english is a full-blown dialect of english
if we already have separate dialects for european/latin american spanish and european/brazilian portuguese in the TTS menu it would make sense if there were also cantonese and british

sidenote: why am i always intimidated by you

No. Cantonese is first, then people started being influenced by Mandarin, then all of a sudden speak mandarin was on.

Fun fact: Singaporean media is prohibited from being in Cantonese because Mandarin is the official dialect.

Go to about page in both American and European Spanish and tell me how many differences there are. If you said anything more than 0, you'll find out how different those two dialects are compared to American and British English.
