Remove the "Featured Projects" Section
No support. Firstly, lots of effort was put into those projects and are meant to be front paged. Secondly, these projects come from creators that are really good projects and deserve to have more loves and favourites. How are these projects meant to be popular if it is not featured.
Thirdly, spam and advertising is slowing down, which means there will be more comments about the game, not advertising and spam. You can always just report it. Also, everybody who helped with the project with their username in the credits get a chance to be more popular, and they get more loves and favourites and followers. Scratch is meant to have featured projects. The ST picked these projects to be featured. The ST thought these were good projects to be featured and deserve more loves and favourites. No support.

I do, but does that mean that they get featured? Nope.If you feel so bad for them, then go ahead and suggest their projects to be featured. While I do agree with the fact that people who put work into their projects don't get featured but the reason is because they usually have 100 love its and favorites so there for they can't become featured, but if not, then that's just…idek But the projects that get featured today are still greatNot really true. There are several great Scratchers with great projects who have been working for years and have less than 10 views on each of their projects.![]()

1. Lots more effort goes into projects that don't get featured no matter how hard the creator tries.
2. A lot of creators deserve more attention than they get.
3. All projects ideally should get popular, but when creators of very good projects get no attention and their projects are MUCH better than what gets featured, they feel discouraged and therefore probably leave eventually.
4. I have never seen a collab project get featured. Not saying it hasn't happened, I just have never seen it.
5. Scratch was never meant to have featured projects. It was meant to be a programming software that anyone could use, then they could share it and others would be able to enjoy it. Lots of creators out there deserve to get featured but never will, so removing the featured project section would be ideal in this situation as it would help prevent people from leaving.

So, instead of providing recognition to those who supposedly deserve it, instead no one should receive recognition? Also, if someone gets upset and leaves because they don't get featured, then obviously that person has a problem. They're using Scratch for all the wrong reasons. The purpose of Scratch isn't to become popular or get famous, it's to have fun making projects and seeing other people's projects. So what if your project doesn't get featured? If you leave Scratch just because you're not getting famous, then you probably don't belong on Scratch. And another thing-No support. Featured projects aren't ALWAYS going to be super-complex-3D-rendering-physics-engine-complexity level projects-These are the kind of things we're looking for:It is the very first in the list in the featured project suggestion thread. The Scratch Team isn't looking to feature massively difficult-to-make projects; they're going to feature projects that are simple; projects that show innovative uses of Scratch or that represent some idea (like honoring a national holiday) or that teach other scratchers new stuff (like the one on painting an ocean).
1. simple projects

I think another option would be to rename the Featured projects section to something like “Examples of Scratch Projects” because in my opinion, they are to show the capabilities and different uses of Scratch to newcomers.

The featured projects is a nice feature to show what type of projects are made on scratch - and they are fun is well. A bit of fame on the site isn’t that bad - it makes the site entertaining. With the spam/ads, that will always happen, but please report them. Thanks
For the featured projects, I think they are good, but the ST don’t always want the most complex project, they do want projects that show what scratch is about, or if it encourages remixing. Not just how complex the project is.

There's a huge thing to point out which no one has mentioned yet as far as I can tell. The featured projects (or anything on the front page) is not just for highlighting them and making them famous. A front page needs to show what Scratch offers - both to the Scratchers using it (inspiration), and to those who are just browsing through. The featured projects are what can make someone create an account and join the community, and removing this is not a good idea since it holds a very important function. Where's the substitute if the featured projects are not done?

I semi-support, because the featured projects need some variety. For example, a working 24-hour clock is cast aside in favor of a simple animation. I honestly wouldn't miss the “Featured Projects” too much, but this has an 85% chance of being rejected, as the “Featured Projects” are a huge part of scratch. So, yeah.

Support, as the spam is really annoying and it just encourages all the misguided 7-12 year olds to spam and complain about not getting featured. I would prefer if featured projects needed to be more advanced, coding-wise, that way the aforementioned fame-obsessed groups might have more motivation to learn about coding, rather than treating Scratch like YouTube.

This is a beloved feature and it’s just unlikely that the Scratch Team will discontinue it.
However, the stated objective is that Scratch is not about fame (mentioned on pg 75 of “Lifelong Kindergarten” by Mitch Resnick on sale at a Scratch Store near you).
Featured projects are supposed to serve as inspiration to the community.
However, under each front page featured project is the username of the person that created it. That is one thing that the Scratch Team is doing wrong if they want to de-emphasize fame and the overriding, compelling, goal of the Scratch community to grasp the brass ring.
If the Scratch Team wanted to be aligned with the goals of Mitch Resnick then they would remove the names of the creators from the front page listing of featured projects.

Remove the "Featured Projects" Section
First, I know this won't get any support, but here it goes anyway:I totally agree with the first point. It's not okay to use featured projects to advertise. And it's sad that there are some Scratchers with great work who doesn't get featured. I wouldn't remove featured projects but maybe they should change something on their System how they choose featured projects
I think that the “Featured Projects” section should be removed. I have made a list of reasons why:
1: It attracts advertising and spamming. Have you noticed recently how on featured projects that the comments section is cluttered with ads and spam? people think that commenting on a popular project is going to get them popular. The resulting outcome is several spam/advertising comments that are a waste of time to the creator, and prevents anyone from actually seeing the “real” comments.
2: Quality in featured projects has gone down. I have recently noticed that the featured projects look like they took about 20 minutes to make. There are far better projects that could be featured, but these poor quality ones get featured and the hard-labor ones don't. Recently, a project that demonstrated animal cruelty was featured (), so another reason I think it should be removed.
3: It is discouraging to people who work hard. When a project gets featured, it (used to) mean that it was put together well and had a lot of work put into it.
Now, it seems that lots of people who actually put work into their projects get ignored, while simple projects get featured. It's like rubbing it in for people who make good projects, so they eventually want to leave, so they do so. That's not the point of scratch, remember the motto “Imagine, Program, Share!” ? Well I think this could be a major contributor to the fact that several scratchers are leaving.
So please, give me your opinions on this problem.

On the spreadsheet I use for the Suggestions Topic, I mark some topics as “TLD”, for “too little discussion”. That is for topics which hasn't had discussion years, but also topics I do not want to be bumped so they never see the light of day ever again.
Why do I even bother?

I don't really think this is a good suggestion. The featured projects section should be improved a lot, but not just removed.

It seems like one of the points of contention is that there's a lot more art projects than there used to be. I don't think the solution is to remove the section entirely; why not just have two rows of featured projects, one for art/music/animation and one for cool code stuff? I feel like that satisfies everyone without being too difficult to implement.
