The people who made it know how it works (obviously).
No, that's not always the case.
I am not sure what method the algorithm uses, but if it relies on some kind of neural networks and/or machine learning, it's essentially a black box. I don't fully understand what they are, but I think the catch is that they can generate some kind of “code” themselves without input from its creators. What I certainly know is that even if you can view its “code”, it's probably so complex that no one can understand it.

I’m pretty sure people in this forum (especially applej who created it) is smart enough to know that.

implemented I think. Scratch is already open source, and you can edit code (or at least suggest the code to be changed) on Githnub. I think

No, a large part of Scratch's code runs on the servers and is not open source.

I've changed my mind since my last post. Making these algorithms open source could lead the community to fix issues that Scratch Team apparently doesn't care enough to fix, like the reshare bug. I fully support this idea.

I support this topic for reasons stated above.

Please don't do that; it's very unconstructive.

If you make an algorithm that generates code, you should be able to link it.

Anyway, support as we should know how it's done.

Semi-support. I think the Scratch Team should be more transparent about how the Explore/Trending/Search page algorithm works, but they shouldn't make it open source. They should talk about how why projects sometimes don't show on the Explore/Trending/Search pages, like they did for the front page in this topic: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/384726/
How can they be more transparant? And making it only sourced is the only way!!!!

Support! Security through obscurity is not secure, so use open-source practices to improve the algorithm's downfalls!

not only would this help with security, but it can also be useful for people who want to make a Scratch modification and want to also modify the front page system, FULL SUPPORT

support, this could help people find and report or fix issues with it, and, being oss, scratch should have more transparency about these things.

also, obscurity != security and shouldn't be used to stop people “cheating”

The trending algorithm - it just works (for them, not for us). They wouldn't want to waste time on improving that.
