How would this work? This seems very difficult to actually add, and besides many projects are similar but not copies.
how would this be difficult to add

it would work like this

Za-Chary is looking through reports and find an exact copy one, he click the link and sees the projects are so similar it couldn't have been an accident, so because this is implemented, he makes the reported project a remix of the other one

Oh, never mind because you gave the impression that this would be done automatically.
Still, what advantage does this have over, say, an automatic credit when you download a project?

I feel like this is an improper solution to the problem. We could..
  • Attack the problem at the source and force automatic credit when one downloads a project (suggested somewhere).
  • Really crack down on project copiers (which if we don't do, I guess we should do so now).
  • Implement some sort of automatic credit for backpacking
It's a decent idea, but I feel like there are better solutions

  1. how would they do that
  2. what if people are just taking like a love/fav detector from another project because they're too lazy to go to the original or some music

They'd probably just add a little piece of code that auto-gives attribution when you import something from the backpack.

There's a topic about that, you can discuss it there. I have no idea where it is

Imagine I make an animation meme, and somewhere else on scratch there is an animation meme that's similar. I didn't remix the project, so why should it be marked as a remix as I coded and drew everything myself?

he says after reading the OP very closely

if a project is similar enough for it to not possibly be an accident to another project, mark the project that came out second as a remix of the first project

1. I use she/they pronouns.

2, It WAS an accident. Not sure of the point you're trying to make

Yeah, like add an md5 hash of the original person the code got backpacked from. if the back packed code isnt that big it will make a small entry crediting the creator of that code in the note and credits else it will mark as a remix

this seems like it would be hard to implement say this happens:

person a makes this code as a part of their project:
when green flag clicked
go to x: (-50) y: (0)
move (100) steps
turn cw (180) degrees
move (100) steps

and then person b independently makes this code
when [space v] key pressed
move (100) steps
turn cw (180) degrees

person b didnt copy person a, but the system marks person b's project as a remix of person a's project because the code was similar

then less drama and complaints about art theft

so when someone reports a similar project for being an exact copy, a mod will make it a remix

In addition - I'm not sure how you would implement this. For every new project shared, you would have to compare it to all other shared projects. That would be pretty much impossible to do in a reasonable amount of time and with a reasonable amount of computing power.
The easiest way to do that is to use a quantum computer… and not everyone has one(for obvious reasons, aka, you'd need to be really rick to get one)
