Good idea! Though I agree with the person who said they want it to be different wording. Inactive makes you think “Oh, that person isn't going to ever return to scratch.” Instead, maybe “On vacation” would be better. It could take 2 weeks of inactivity to get the rank, and once you go back on, maybe a new rank, “Back from vacation” could be there for 3 days, and maybe it would notify any followers of that person in messages.

A rank *not* above scratcher

This new rank, inactive scratcher, would serve certain purposes, of which here are some I could list off the top of my head:
1. It would quickly let people know if the scratcher is likely to reply to a request or comment about a project, profile page, or studio. Useful because comments are frequently used to communicate information.
That's good (though i don't know why this b u m … ped up to the top after a year )

2. There could be a way to give curators temporary control over a studio if a scratcher has been inactive for a long period of time (there are several ways this could be executed). In fact, I know of at least one studio that has this exact problem.
I don't thinl that would be a good idea, and I don't think they'd want that.
Curators are curators for a reason, because the managers don't trust them or just don't want them to be managers of a studio, and managers are managers, meaning they are the ones who control the studio, not the curators.
And secondly, if I became inactive, and let's just say I had a studio called “Platformers”, that says something like “invite your followers if you're promoted”, so alot of people are being invited every day, which causes alot of project to be added, and alot of non-platformers are added, so the managers have to delete any curators that repeatetivly add non-platformers. So anyway, let's just say something happened and the managers had to be moved to curators or deleted entirely (several reasons could've caused that to occur, 1: they didn't want to get studio messages 2: they decided to raid it 3: they left scratch and didn't want to be a part of the studio anymore, to decrease messages perhaps 4: they didn't have time or 5: they just didn't want to (and a few more)), now only I'm left. So back to me becoming inactive (which i actually am lol), now I get that status, and curators start taking over my studio, then several people (it's sure to happen since there's sooo many curators in that studio), start raiding it and adding alot of non-platformer projects until it becomes an AE studio, I would not want that to happen because I left. Besides, what if I decided to return and found my studio in a mess? I would never be able to clean that up-..

3. When someone comes back to scratch after a long period of time, they might not be up-to-date on (or just not remember) some community guidelines or have forgotten some aspects to coding. It would be in the interest of both the Scratch team and the scratcher to have a way to “bring someone up to speed.”
Hmm… I don't really see how this would work or be useful.

What counts as “activity” in my opinion could be any of the following - Loving, Favoriting, or editing any project, commenting, or updating the account information. Exactly how long it takes until they become an “inactive scratcher” could be up for debate. There could also be some kind of manual switch or button that a scratcher could press to say that they will be inactive for a period of time.
I guess…

Overall, it doesn't really seem like it would be that useful, so no support, but neat idea!

Support, as it is hard to tell whether a user is active or not for sure.

I feel like “On Hiatus” would still have the same ability for gossip, like people talking about what could have happened in a user's personal life to prompt them to go on a hiatus.

For how long it would take to get this rank, perhaps there would be a dropdown box in Account Settings to choose how long it'd take. For the options that it would give:
1 day
2 days
1 week
2 weeks
1 month
2 months
1 year
2 years
Once you haven't done stuff like loving, favoriting, making projects/comments/studios/forum posts for your chosen amount of time, your “Scratcher” status would change into “Inactive Scratcher”, and it would stay that way until you do any of those aforementioned things.
