IP Ban Bypass
My browser / operating system: iPhone iOS 14.4, Safari 14.0.3, No Flash version detected
This is pretty common knowledge, but ANY IP BAN can be bypassed by doing any of the following things:
1. Using a Virtual-Private-Network (VPN).
2. Manually refreshing or changing your IP address.
3. Buy a new device and set it up on a different IP address.
This should be patched sometime soon.

Maybe IP bans should block both the IP and ban the account normally at the same time.

Woah those are all ways to get past the IP ban. How should you make sure that people can't go around the IP ban?

Usually, IP Bans are a sort of last resort. IP bans aren't really to ban scratch accounts, but to bar scratch users from creating more accounts with bad intentions. There isn't really any “true” fix to using a VPN other than blocking vpn services.
VPNs are also really helpful and shouldn't be banned. Many scratch users in China can only connect to scratch through vpns, and if they were to be blocked, a large portion of Chinese-located scratchers wouldn't be able to access the site.
Another possible solution would be to become more restrictive and ask for more of users privacy. For an extreme example, one way to stop “alting” would be if the scratch team forced all users to send in forms of ID to create an account. This is a lot of work for the scratch team, and it would make me uncomfortable about using scratch at all. Many users without IDs wouldn't be allowed to use scratch.

Delete that, don't encourage people to evade bans.
Me? Where did I encourage people to avoid bans?

1. You have a point. I am surprised scratch doesn't block VPNs
2. Local (Private) IP addresses do not matter.
3 I don't think buying a new device would be feasible. But Scratch can do nothing about that.

Please delete this post. Several IP banned people, including all of the KajTheModerator clones AND BrowserExtension could return to Scratch.

People can do those things, yes. What do you propose we do about it? Short of using tons of invasive metrics to attempt to fingerprint someone's computer, we can't really stop them from changing their IP/etc. IP blocks are just one tool we have to discourage trolls from coming back. Keep in mind that many people don't know how to use those measures, so publicizing them probably isn't the best idea.

Honestly it's all possible but Scratch can just IP ban that again. Most people are kids or even adults. No one's gonna spend $800+ just to ruin and troll and be inappropriate on a kids website for coding
And VPNs? Well a lot of people dotn know about them and need parents to get it soooo
And finally most people, like me, don't know how to manually change ur IP
