I saw one of @jromagnoli's project and thought it was really cool and stared playing with the mosaic effect and interesting things were happening and the things I found are what I call The sweet spot: setting the mosaic effect to 3584 and “The growth effect” is when the Mosaic is ether growing or shrinking. I don't know how else to explain so just take a look in inside this project.
