make forums use HTML instead of BBcode

no support
  • Nothing wrong with BBcode
  • HTML is for websites, not for forum software (many other forums also use BBCode)
  • BBcode works just fine, no issues at all (not 100% sure)

HTML has a very strong integration with other languages and services, which would enable certain things not allowed in Scratch, such as harmful code, interaction with unmoderated social networks, as well as being complicated.

No support. I think we should stay with BBCode.

If we do a normal HTML (Or else it just doesn't make sense), people would just be really confused, as things could change. Let's look at the workarounds. List of tags from BBCode (Scratch Wiki)

  • [b]…[/b] - <b>…</b>
  • [i]…[/i] - <i>…</i>
  • [u]…[/u] - <u>…</u>
  • [color=#f00]…[/color] - <span style=“font-color:#ff0000”>…</span>
  • [url]…[/url] - <a href=“…”>…</a>
  • [url=…]:::[/url] - <a href=“…”>:::</a>
  • [img]…[/img] - <img src=“…” />
  • [wiki]…[/wiki] - —–
  • [quote]…[/quote] - <blockquote>…</blockquote>
  • [quote=…]:::[/quote] - <blockquote><b>… wrote:</b><br />:::</blockquote>
  • [code]…[/code] - <blockquote style=“font-family:monospace”>…</blockquote>
  • [code=…]:::[/code] - —–
  • Emoji - <img src=“Emoji Link” />
  • [scratchblocks]when gf clicked[/scratchblocks] - —–
  • [[]i] - &lt;i&gt;
  • [big]…[/big] - <span style=“font-size:17px”>…</span>
  • [small]…[/small] - <span style=“font-size:10px”>…</span>
  • [s]…[/s] - <s>…</s>
It's just hard, and people will be confused.

Chill, he has a Snap! account, me too.
I have a snap account and I hate it!
What in tarnation is a snap account?
Snap is a modification of scratch with a few cool features in exchange for poor graphics and a non existent community.
It's not a mod anymore

HTML can't colour text or do anything cool, but build the skeleton of a website.
It can do lots of cool things if CSS is allowed (JavaScript obviously wouldn't be, for security reasons).

That's the point. We only need one coding language. So, BBcode it is.

Some nerd told me that it's much better to stylize a text with CSS rather than HTML because HTML is only used to build the skeleton of a website.

…That's what HTML is supposed to be. Unless you're referring to the “nerd” part, which I guess is a little rude but not really that bad.

I mean yeah but you can embed CSS in html with style attributes or tags (which I would rather not use btw)

no support, there are many kids like me using the forums and most of the kids (Including me) don't know how to use html, BBcode is fine and it would be very confusing to use html (For kids), plus in all of the Forums I went to they all used BBcode.
Why's everyone underestimating kids.
Guess my age. For one thing it's less than 13.
I'm at an advanced level in HTML, CSS and js.
Besides, I support. It helps people learn HTML and it's really just replacing [b] with <b>.
And what does CSS and js ,mean? I never heard of it

Font tags are the only way to specify styles without CSS, and they're deprecated.

It's a joke. I'm not that offended. When I use a bunch of exclamations like that, I'm just being silly.
