I'd definitely agree with that last bit because the email could be outdated.

I heavily doubt that anyone has gotten banned or even punished for talking about depression in such a way that doesn't violate any other rules.

Scratch is not a therapy website. Some topics (i.e. suicide) are just not safe for Scratch, even if they are things which should be discussed elsewhere. What about children who happen to be victims of, uh, a certain crime which is often considered worse than murder despite not involving the death of the victim? It's great to give them a platform to freely share their feelings, but Scratch cannot be that place. I think that the current mental health alert message is the best thing that can be done, or at least has been proposed, about this issue.

Yeah I agree. While this is a very dark topic, it must be solved. I also heavily doubt anyone has gotten banned for talking about depression, it seems self destructive.

However, with a LOT of impressionable kids around, topics relating to self harm are not to be discussed here. They can lead to others doing so as well. The mental healt message is probably the best that could be done.

I also think that the phone number detector should whitelist all suicide hotline numbers.

I thought what happened is the scratch gave out alerts to people saying they where sorry to hear, but it’s not a place to discuss that on scratch, and then link some sites. I think that’s a good way to deal with it.

As for the suggestion itself I'm pretty mixed. Yes these are serious topics that shouldn't really be discussed on a website like this but it could save someone's life. Maybe there are better ways to handle this such as sending an alert about self-help like

I have actually never heard of this type of thing happening on Scratch. Can someone link me to something of this sort?

Anyways, support. Unless someone is talking about killing themselves (or something similar), it should be perfectly fine to say this sort of stuff, as Scratch can be considered a kid-friendly social media.

I don't think that the parents should be emailed, as what if you're in a situation. And what if depression is falsely flagged and the parents get the email and the kid has to have an awkward conversation. And this suggestion doesn't even consider the fact that not everyone on scratch is using their parents email.
