I think studio invites should go the other way.

If you own or curate a studio you've probably heard of the studio invitation system. It works like this, the owner or managers of a studio can send an invitation to anybody with a confirmed email address, and they can either choose to accept the invite or ignore it. It's simple.

Why change it?
Say you want others to join your studio, well one of the ways to do that would be to invite lots of other Scratchers and hope some decide to join. But that feels like advertising, especially if you don't have a positive reason to do it.

What solves the problem?
I think the way to fix this would be to switch it around. Instead, the user who wants to join sees the studio, and clicks the join studio button. It will then tell them that a request to join was sent. Now once a manager or owner accepts the request, the user becomes a curator of the studio.

Why not change it?
This might cause a different problem, “mass requesting”. That's when several accounts try to join the same studio at the same time with the intention of spamming the requests list. This doesn't happen with the current invite system because the notifications are spread across users who are invited and don't end up as spam all in the same place.

And the new system might also be inconvenient for many to switch to, potentially not making many things different in some cases, and making it harder for certain studios that rely on inviting users to get new members. I don't know how much of a change this new system would be, so maybe let me know if you think this system is better or if the downsides outweigh the benefits in your opinion.

How could we balance it?
First, we could add an option to also use the old system. However, everyone using the classic inviting system would defeat the purpose of this change. So perhaps people could choose to either allow or not allow others to invite them to curate without the user requesting to be added first. Then we wouldn't have to be invited to studios we don't know about if we don't want to, while not completely leaving behind the current invite system.

Some of you might have some ideas on how to better balance this system, so feel free to discuss it! Plus, I went back to my suggestion and considered it even more in this project.

SAND means Spam, Advertising, Necroposting, and Derailing.
Spam is when a irrelevant message is sent to many places. Wiki Article: Spam
Advertising is when you promote your studios and projects. Wiki Article: Advertising
Necroposting is when you post on a old topic. It distracts other helpers! Wiki Article: Necroposting
Derailing is when you post something that is irrelevant to the topic, like minimodding. It is called thread hijacking. Wiki Article: Derailing(Derailing idea comes from this guy),
in the process of leaving scratch.

Solution for mass-requesting: You can only request to join a studio once every half hour or so and you can't request to join the same studio for a month.

How would these be accessed and managed? Would you be able to deny a curator request? Just a few questions before I share my stance.

You would be surprised to hear that they do not. Even Scratch Cat has to discuss features with us to make sure they're good — it's called the Scratch Team, after all.

Yeah, but we all know griffpatch secretly runs the scratch team; I mean, he’s GRIFFPATCH. It would be outright dumb to not have griffpatch on the team. But, since it’s impossible for a human to make such good projects, it has to be either Scratch Cat, Gobo, Pico, and the other one. It has to be Scratch Cat, because the other one is too obscure, Pico is to busy making records, and Gobo is, well, Gobo. So, Scratch Cat in fact DOES have all the power, and the scratch team is a hoax made by NASA to distract from the fact that the moon landing was fake, the earth is flat, the government is run by lizard people, and spocite is a serial killer.

Furthermore, all the “Scratch Team members” are also fake. I mean, @Paddle2See is a robot designed to reject suggestions, @Za-Chary is, well, he might be held hostage by Gobo, I have no idea about him… All the rest though, they’re just actors…

no no not that is not what we mean by mass requesting

It's when thousands of people request to join a featured studio. The managers will get spammed

OH well then uh- the owner of a studio can toggle whether join requests will be on or off.

I don’t see the need to replace this as the current one works fine. Other factors can be improved on studios. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

And maybe there should be a link to accept requests so the messages system only has to count them, not display each one individually?

Perhaps from a requests menu accessible from a button in the curators tab?

I'd still no support this as the old one is still better and the menu would get really spammed with requests

This'll seem like some weird reasoning, but I feel this might put emphasis on this being like an admin panel, and might cause some bragging issues. It's a lot like the old community moderator position, it put too much emphasis on moderating.

The thought of a secret panel only available to certain people doesn't seem to fit with Scratch's views IMO, so I don't see this being implemented.

Though it is an interesting idea, I don't support it.
Exclusive “popular” groups would have to search through thousands of requests to find ones from people they invited or people who have been accepted into the group. Plus, there would be no way to stop requests from coming in.

No support. I mean really, how many invites do you get per day? Two? If you unfollow said people that invite, this problem is usually solved.

Do you think somebody like griffgum gets 2 invites per day? I don't see why we shouldn't have both options, the ability to get invited and request to get invited.
