it can't be “Watchers”. Even though it's a popular term on some other sites with a one-way system, we're avoiding that term because it comes off as creepy
creepy 100

Maybe “friending” could be used when two Scratchers follow each other (which would show up on the user's profiles), so instead of asking for “f4f”, they could ask to friend someone.
Or there could be a friend request system like FB has. There could be a link to send a friend request below the follow button, and that would send a private message to the user, and they can either confirm the request or deny it. If the request is accepted, the “My Friends' Latest Projects” row on the Front Page would reappear.

Huh. Well, maybe we shouldn't use that term then.

No support. “Following” makes more sense. You are “following” a users activity.

An idea: Gobos. It could be a Scratch term that means the same thing as followers, but it is a scratchy term and is less creepy then ‘followers.’

Followers is a commonly used term in many social media, and accurately describes what it's meant to describe. You're following someone's content.

Change followers back to friends
In Scratch 1.4, it was originally called “Friends”, but “Friends” implies some kind of relationship between the users when that wasn't necessarily the case. It was more common to see users use the system to get updates on someone else's projects, without actually having a friendship connection with the users. Hence the change to “Followers” for Scratch 2.0.No support because of this. I think followers is a better term than friends due to the reasons stated in the above quote.

I've seen a lot of people comment “please follow me, I need friends,” and I usually respond saying that you can make friends without getting followers. Although calling them “followers” promotes fame a little more, it's still more truthful, since “friends” seems to imply that you know them. I get follows from people I don't know existed all the time.

IdeasWell, I don't think all my followers are “fans” of me, or anyone's followers, really. And “subscribers” reminds me to much of youtube. And crew is a bit less official sounding. Plenty of people say on their profile “I have ___ people in my crew” without it officially being called that.

I have more than 100 followers, and most of those people aren’t my friends.I don’t interact with them and don’t consider them or who I’m following my friend just because they’re flowing or I’m following.
Also made me think of a stalker.

Some of my followers were just begging for f4f and not being friendlyMaybe friendly acquaintances because we are friendly to each other but we are not exactly friends my mum says some people on scratch are my friendly acquaintances as I don't know them in real life.As Cheddargirl pointed out, it was changed because the users friending users they wanted to follow were not really friends. I think it should be changed to something more scratch-y, if changed at all.To be honest, we're not entirely a big fan of the word “followers” ourselves, and we're open to suggestions. But a few things to keep in mind if anyone has any suggestions:
it can't be “Friends” or any term that associates with a two-way system (such as “Buddies”)
it can't be “Watchers”. Even though it's a popular term on some other sites with a one-way system, we're avoiding that term because it comes off as creepy

I followed someone to see their activities and progress. Following someone doesnt mean you become friends with them because i dont have any.

If it was “friends” I would only be friends with people I knew in real life. Following means you will just be notified when the person you are following makes a project. For this reason, I would follow anyone who has many good projects and looks like they are going to make more. If you want to replace “followers”, how about “fans”?Support, I like the idea of fans! Followers kinda sounds like stalkers when you think about it ;-;
