Uh oh, logical fallacy alert!

To OP: Eh, I don't really see a use for this. And as per VoltageGames, people will then worry about getting top-loved, let alone being loved.
Semi-support.

I think i should say this

I really don't think people should be mad that other scratchers have lots of faves because people are good at programing and you can be to. people should not remix a good project just to get loves and faves because it won't always work.

Just kidding.

You can't remove some aspect of Scratch just because it makes people “depressed”. What we need to do about depression is convince people to make better projects, not remove the thing that makes them depressed.

We should also remove the forums since they make people say things, which can make them, oh no, depressed!

EDIT: Just to clarify:

I said that post that I made above to make a point. People use the cliche phrase “Scratch is not about fame” to justify just about anything they think up, which is not to say this is a bad idea. It just needs work. Maybe display love counts like “100+” or “1000+”?
like on the forums.

No support. It says how people react to your project.

Wouldn't the comments be more accurate as it also includes constructive criticism?

Sometimes, its just easier to look at the 500 favorites than to read 1000 comments.

I'm not the kind of person who judges a project based on their loves, but apparently some people are. So that's why I like this idea:

This wins. We need to gauge the popularity of projects in order to do special things, like featuring, curating, adding to studios in some cases…

Perhaps a compromise can be reached. In one other topic about adding commas to numbers exceeding 1k, someone posted that instead they could be roughly estimated with short numbers and appropriate suffix, including but not limited to 1k, 2k, 5k, 10.2k, 100k, 1m, 10m. This way, we still get to measure the approximate popularity of a project while hiding the exact number count, thus eliminating that ultra-fascination with numbers, which is what the OP wanted.

Or change the love count to just 100+ if the love count is higher than 100, like in studios.

Ehh. Kids need to be exposed to the kinds of things the real world already has. Washing Scratch of things that show kids some of the world's more harsh realities would just be counterproductive. Learn to code and learn to accept some of life's less talked about emotions, I say. You have to start facing the real world sometimes.

You're saying that showing the amount of loves on a project makes Scratchers quit because it makes them realise they aren't popular. Pretty much making the “scratch isn't about fame” argument which is kinda invalid:

VoltageGames wrote:

obviously if someone leaves because they're not famous, they don't care about programming and are just here to use it as social media. let's not put the social-media-ers prioritized above the programmers.
And tbh this suggestion would literally do nothing you are suggesting. You'd have to remove followers, comments, remixes, and pretty much the entire fp leaving you with no interaction among users. Scratch is a programming site not social media, but you gotta draw the line somewhere and zero interaction isn't a very good one amirite.

What I would like is a way to disable love/faves on your own projects similar to the comment locking function.
That is what sounds better. Automatically having comments and loves/favorites disabled just isolates the viewer from the creator. I do agree that Scratch is not social media, and most kids are using it that way, but just having the options to show how many loves the project has would be a good feature, just like you can hide the amount of likes on a youtube video.

Massive no support, this hides info from the user. Some fame is fine is well.
Plus, it shows users if others like the project!

Found this on suggestions directory spreadsheet, and caught my eye.

No support, most FPCs use loves and favorites as a requirement (example):
Project Requirements
  • less than 200 loves
  • less than 100 favorites
Sure, the owner can say the numbers, but that would be tedious as they might be sleeping and their messages are full of:
New comment! Good luck on your shift!!
New comment! I love your projects
New comment! What's your star sign?
There were new studio activities in -CirclePer-'s FPC Studio
RickRoll is now following you
and they would miss the message.

No support. This would get rid of the ‘What the Community is loving’. It also has no purpose. Why should people not get to see the numbers? People can judge a project their own way, which could be by the number of likes or faves.

I don't know if anyone has said this, but Scratch is about fame. The idea that Scratch isn't about fame at all is ridiculous; If you really want to see a site that “isn't about fame” then go to Snap!. If Scratch weren't about fame then they wouldn't have added two like buttons in the first place. Sure it's not only about fame, but it is still, in the end, partially about fame.

Why does every suggestion that involve removing a feature (that could include fame) end up with killing the fly with a sledgehammer?

Just hide the L&F counts from New Scratchers. The end.
