Project Thumbnails are not updating...
Every time I try to update the thumbnail for one of my projects, it just doesn't save. Even after clearing all of my cache, saving a project when it's screen is showing something different than the previous thumbnail, will still show the previous thumbnail. This is problematic, as I am completely unable to fix issues where I accidentally share a project with the thumbnail not set with the thumbnail sprite open! This means I must have the thumbnail open when I share the project, or the thumbnail sprite becomes worthless with no way to fix it. Please fix this, it should be easy!
My browser / operating system: Windows NT 10.0, Chrome 88.0.4324.146, Flash 32.0 (release 0)
This is my laptop, which I now use much more commonly than my slow PC.

Project Thumbnails are not updating...
My problem is that I accidentally saved the thumbnail of one of my projects as not the thumbnail sprite & now I cannot set the thumbnail to, well, the actual thumbnail. I feel like they are different despite being similar. As for yea it will stay the default scratch cat new project thumbwarrior1785, that is exactly my problem.

I've been having this same problem, but I think I found a solution!
Go inside the project you're having thumbnail issues with. Press “file” up in the top left hand corner near to the Scratch logo, then click “Save as a copy” (make sure to have the project saved on the thumbnail you want to be shown). Go back to My Stuff and look at the copy. For me, it's always been the thumbnail I want. Delete the old project, load up the new one, and remove “copy” from the title.

I've had this problem quite often as well, but another way is to save your thumbnail, then log out of your account for like, ten minutes, before you log back in. This way, the thumbnails i uploaded on my project would be viewable on my profile
Hope this helps as well!

Project Thumbnails are not updating...
I've been having the same problem, and I finally figured out how the thumbnail presents itself.
How the project is displayed in MyStuff will be what the project looked like when it saved for the first time. To get around this, try making the thumbnail first or transfer everything from one project into another project with the thumbnail already in place.
How the project is displayed in studios and on your profile will be what the project looked like the last time it saved before going to the project page for the first time. To get around this, save when the thumbnail is visible, then go to the project page. What I just described for this might not be accurate, but it has to be close.

My “My Stuff” page is having the thumbnail update, but other places aren't. I have also tried “hard resetting” clearing the cache multiple times with not much luck… Also, your method says that I can't update the thumbnail after I've seen the project page for the first time. Problem is, that project's already shared. Does this mean I cannot fix it at all without involving resharing? If not, I may try resharing the project.

I tried unsharing & resharing the project to fix the thumbnail, but it still showed the same scene that's not the official thumbnail. I will try clearing the cache again just to check (EDIT: didn't work at all). If it officially hasn't worked then I'll give up on fixing it for very small projects - mostly remixes - but will consider unfiltered's “share a copy of the project” method for larger ones.I sometimes reshare to make edits to my projects or if I accidentally unshare one so like yeaI've been having the same problem, and I finally figured out how the thumbnail presents itself.

Project Thumbnails are not updating...
Hmm… Now that I've thought about it this could indeed be related to the “Default Scratch Cat Thumbnail” glitch, where thumbnails display simply as the default thumbnail with a scratch cat sprite. Hopefully it isn't permanent this time! yea it will stay the default scratch cat new project thumb
