Add a "Check for updates" feature in desktop version of the Scratch app
I'm surprised that the Scratch app does not include a feature to check for updates on desktop variants. It would be way more convenient then having to reinstall the Scratch app every time an update was rolled out, and also better for your security. And the irony of this is that Scratch 2 has this feature, but not Scratch 3. I am not sure why this feature was omitted. Quick security lesson: Many virus attacks rely on vulnerabilities in outdated software. So if you keep all your software (that includes your operating system) up-to-date, you'll stay protected for longer. One case of this was a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability that was discovered back in October 2020, and was patched in Scratch 3.17.1. The problem was, not everybody could update right away, and some users weren't even aware of what was going on. So, I am requesting for the ability to check for updates in desktop variants of the Scratch app, and have it check for updates automatically. Many desktop applications check for updates automatically, so why wouldn't this feature be added to desktop variants of the Scratch app?
Sorry if this discussion got a little long. I wanted to explain why an auto-update feature (or other equivalent) would be nice. (maybe a necessity for some people)
Edit: I'm adding a notification just in case someone is asking.
The notification would read:

Yeah, like “there is a new version of the editor out, do you want to upgrade”? Support because the XSS bug sounded pretty serious

Assuming Desktop still has messages,
Maybe there could be a message:

No, the desktop version is just the editor. It could be a pop-up that says “updates detected.” I know that checking for updates is possible with JavaScript, though I don't think that automatic updates are.Announcement? On the home page?Assuming Desktop still has messages,
