The Scratch Team Should Not Promote Companies

No support, I think that it should be ST's choice if they want to say that they want to endorse a company or not

Eh, kind of? I see why but I don't think it's that big of a problem yet. Also I know this post is three years old but it still bothers me:

If they 100% know what they're doing all of the time, then why do they need this subforum? Seems like a bit of a contradiction to me. “Trust X, they know what they're doing” is never a good thing to say.

By supporting these campaigns, the Scratch Team is promoting companies to young, impressionable children, making them more susceptible to buying products by the companies.

There's nothing wrong with that.

Your information is going to be disclosed to another body anyway, and it starts with your birth.

No support since it is understandable of why they made projects or studios about them. Why? If you look in the credits page then scroll down to Current Sponsors, You will see that Google, CN, etc etc are providing major financial support for Scratch and it's just like advertising in YouTube, while it's annoying, you can also make money
big agreement.

Jeez, what the heck? That's very suddenly dystopian, not to mention the fact that they weren't even talking about data privacy at all. Are you sure you're in the right thread?

There's a difference between a Scratch Team member personally choosing to support a company and the entire Scratch Team using their platform to promote companies to small children. This is a line that the Scratch Team has blurred themselves many times in the past, and one which I think is heavily irresponsible to ignore.

No support. The ST can endorse who they want to and I trust them. If it happens to make them money or donations, I'll accept it.

there are other ways to endorse things than using an educational tool to essentially drill something into the minds of impressionable youth.

come on! “make your own google logo”? how much does google want to portray themselves as like a household brand then they already are!!!

Fine, Mr. “I use Duckduckgo just because it's not google”
Back in my day elementary school, we participated in the “make a logo” contest each year in art class.
Google's already really commonplace.

(And watch as I get ganged up on for stating those opinions)

I know this is a Reddit thing to say, but… This. This is what I feel every time Scratch is used to promote a company. Very young children can't even tell advertisements apart from programming. I'm aware that age demographic is not who Scratch is targeted towards, but they do have some pretty young users, and I have a feeling that these kinds of advertisements are still not good for them.

(Hasn't this kind of promotion stopped for the most part though? I don't think we've had one of those for a while)

Edit:

And that makes it okay? Also, how dare you criticize my personal choice to use DuckDuckGo

Support. Scratch isn't an advert masquerading as coding site. Or is it.
