When I make a My Block and add a definition to it and then go to a different sprite, the block disappears from the bar on the side where all the blocks are displayed. Is it possible to avoid this or do I have to make a new My Block for every sprite?

yes, my blocks are only for one sprite.
you can drag the definition to other sprites then the block will automatically show at the side.
