Try finding books that show you starter Scratch projects. Build onto those, and your skills will get better with each block!

About your question, a way to get started is defining the theme, the style, the gameplay, and how the characters (called sprites here) work in the game, detail the features and concept, then start placing your blocks. That way you will have the focus on your details, and with a detailed progress I'm sure you'll do it better.
If you want any help, try looking at Help With Scripts forum or watch tutorials on Youtube.

You should start by making new friends in Scratch. Then you can check the Explore, Ideas, and About to learn more about Scratch. This is my advice to you.

Also, Youtube is not that bad if you know what do you want to achieve in the platform. If you want tutorials, just find it, and maybe get your mother to watch with you too. I'm pretty sure your mother also uses Youtube, so she will know what to help or guide you through.
And if you just entirely can't access Youtube, I can give you the links to "scratch.mit.edu/discuss/youtube/…" which shows you Youtube videos but in a friendly environment with no viewer content, no recommendation or other stuff (just a video). Here is an example on how it'll look like (it's a chill music video so totally safe).
