Why are most Scratch animations generic now?
I know exactly what you're talking about.
Maybe it has to do with the fact that animations don't require a lot of coding to make, and animations on Scratch are some of the most viewed projects and get lots of views and loves.
The fact that animations are easy to make combined with the colossal amount of positive feedback most get, animations can get a scratcher lots of views in a short amount of time.

I'm gonna stop you right there. They aren't easy (at least not quality animations).

The coding isn't the hardest part about animations- I think the hardest part is the amount of patience you need.I know exactly what you're talking about.

The coding required to make quality animations is still hard, but not as hard as the coding required to make other very high-quality projects.
Plus, to some people, patience is easier to learn that coding.

Why are most Scratch animations generic now?
I feel like this isn't just an animation issue, but a games one too. Honestly, I don't watch animations much anymore (for those reasons) so I don't know how bad it is right now.Same with those dreaded PLATFORMERS
It's probably because they've found something that is both very easy to make but is also just high-quality enough to get lots of likes. New scratchers assume that's the only way to animate well, copy those styles, and the cycle continues. The worst thing is (and this is true of animations as well as games), no-one seems to care that animation quality has decreased.
That's just my opinion though
Seriously they all use the same character now (the square with a single eye) and they all get popular…
..some even reshared because “thEre wAs A BuG”- no you know what you were doing creator
ok done ranting

I haven't posted on this in two months so I guess I'll get back into it.
I don't really see an issue. Some stickman animations, while they are short, give me a good laugh! Isn't that the point of an animation? And even if people want to get popular by animating generically, how does that effect you? People like animating frame-by-frame with stickmen. It's a whole style of animation!
I think some of the inspiration for stickmen animations might be people outside of Scratch. Take TheOdd1sOut, for example. They animate pretty simply, with a little derpy bubble stickman. But it's the comedic value that makes those animations good.
And besides, not all animators have gone over to this style. Some users, for example @huntedskelly and @PetalsSilverSteam animate with more complicated characters.
I've seen some theories about users like WazzoTV and -BoyMcBoy- influencing some animators, but stickman animating on Scratch for a while! Take, for example, @Astro947 They joined 10 years ago!
In conclusion, I don't think stick animating has “corrupted Scratch animating”. I think that it is a popular style of animating that is easy for beginners! Have you forgotten that 25% of all Scratch users are 10, 11, or 12?

As with any question of style, there is no single answer. It may be convenience - or fashion.
Feel free to animate any way you like - set a new style
