Darkest Dungeon (2016 Video game dungeon-crawler Roguelike)
Welcome to the Official Darkest Dungeon topic!
Just a couple things:
For those who don't know what Darkest Dungeon is…
Darkest Dungeon is a tough-as-nails gothic/lovecraftian role-playing video game developed by Red Hook Studios and published by Merge Games.
Darkest Dungeon has the player manage a roster of heroes to explore dungeons below a gothic mansion the player has inherited from the Ancestor. Gameplay is played out in a mix of real-time movement and turn-based combat (Note: The excerpt came from Wikipedia).
What separates DD from the million other indie Roguelikes and Dungeon-crawlers is the mechanic of Stress and Afflictions. Your heros will suffer stress from their numerous escapades in the dungeons and encounters with abhorrent eldritch abominations. Their stress (measured as a white bar underneath their health) is vitally as important their physical health, as if it hits 100 they will most likely crack from the pressure, leading to what is called an Affliction.
An Affliction in a hero will have their combat ability suffer immensely, and will lead to them lashing out uncontrollably, stressing themselves pr others in the party, performing actions at random or refusing to move, among other symptoms. If Stress is left unchecked and hits the 200 mark, the hero will suffer a heart attack from the unbearable stress and have their health bought down to 0.
To ease the stress of your heros, you will have to sent them to the either the Abby or the Tavern, which provides numerous activities to sooth their minds
(I won't get too into the nitty-gritty, if you're interested here's the wiki page —> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkest_Dungeon)
Now onto my personal opinion on the game:
It is my favorite game by far (as of 2019), the art-style is amazing (and dreary at the same time).
The Ancestor/Narrator is played by Wayne Jude (who's voice is buttery-smooth and rough as gravel at the same time), who did a phenomenal job. Kudos to him. (Check out the trailer here —> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjiBB3nBR-w)
The mechanics of stress and the idea that your characters are people with quirks & flaws makes the game that more immersive.
My favorite character from the roster is the Leper, because he carries The Broken Blade (a broken executioners sword), and yes he does have leprosy. He is the tankiest character in the game with 35 health base, and can deal out the highest damage (though with abismal accuracy and only for the first two slots), and he can be completely self sufficient. My favorite quote from him is “Fog before Sunrise”
My close second is the Plague doctor (mainly for the design).
Would love to hear from you guys (& gals) your opinion on the game and the fantastic characters it has!
Just a couple things:
- Don't spoil the final boss (Or bosses in the Crimson court or from the Farmstead)!!! (Apprentice bosses: such as Necromancer are fine)
- If it is your first time posting, please include your favorite hero/class or favorite party order!
- Post which Ancestor quote is the best!

You click on the “New Topic” button in the top right under the forum category you want. I'd appreciated it if we'd keep this forum on topic by discussing Darkest Dungeon content only, thanks.

No, you're good, it's the right game. The highwayman is my brother's favorite hero. There's nothing like abusing the broken riposte system XD.
