Wait.

MEGALOVANIA includes the sans. motif.

Is it Sans' theme after all?

Does it? When?!
The motif is in the second bar of sans. The ever-so-recognisable sequence of notes present in MEGALOVANIA can be heard if you listen closely.
Do you hear the similarity?

I can't! I really can't hear it!
Maybe you should adjust your audio settings, as the motif may be easier to hear with some audio adjustments.

I turned it up a little, but all I heard was something that sounds very slightly like Megalovania, but it's not actually a full motif…?
Motifs are usually changed slightly between songs—instead of sounding exactly like megalovania, it resembles it.

Could someone explain what motifs are?
A leitmotif is a recurring section of notes that appear across different sets of music. For example, the Once Upon a Time motif can be heard in many different tracks in the soundtrack.
To further clarify, a motif is simply what Squirrelstar said, while a leitmotif is a motif associated with a character. But I think the two are sometimes used interchangeably in casual conversation.

Whoops, didn't see that in the definition. I need to start reading more in-depth instead of skimming over things… Most motifs in UNDERTALE are leitmotifs though

I wish people would stop associating MEGALOVANIA as the “UNDERTALE theme”. I think that the game is better represented by Hopes and Dreams, or maybe, I dunno, the song that's literally called Undertale.

I agree wholeheartedly, it's extremely frustrating. Sometimes, I have seen people asked/have asked people if they know about Undertale aand they go on and on about Sans and mEgAloVanIa- Although it would be better if people stopped thinking Megalovania is Sans' theme-
It was kinda confirmed MEGALOVANIA is Sans' theme—when he got into Smash Bros, his music track was MEGALOVANIA instead of anything else. I do believe, however, that it's Chara's theme, with Song That Might Play being Sans' actual theme. Chara's frequently associated with Megalo Strike Back, so it makes sense for MEGALOVANIA to be their theme.

Wait, he got into Smash Bros? (Or is that a mod?)

Yeah. Leitmotif is “leading motif”, which I think means it symbolizes the “leading in” and/or reintroduction of a character.

If a leitmotif is associated with a character, can it be associated with multiple? Because with the example I gave several posts ago, a lot of them are used in the fight tracks of more than one character in UNDERTALE

Actually, Muffet, Mad Dummy, and Napstablook share the ‘Miniboss’ Motif, whether it could be considered a leitmotif I am not personally sure

Actually, I don't know what the definition would say about that, but I think that in Undertale's case, some used for multiple characters still tie into one character. For example, you mentioned “the Spider Dance motif”, but it's more like the “Ghost Fight motif”. After all, Napstablook is a music mixer- who's to say that he didn't remix Muffet's theme for her, recycling the structure from his own theme?

Actually these two articles explain it quite well I've found, though they have missed one or two things (The bell-like instrument in Finale for example playing His Theme)

Hey, it's not that basic logic unless you know about music theory then limitmotifs would be more known if you are more like to make music and such

LMAOOO I just looked up undertale on the app store and found a monstrosity–

It's called Undertale Theme Song Magic Beat Hop Tiles and has an icon of one of those games where you bounce a ball on tiles to the beat, like Magic piano or something, and a picture of Sans because OF COURSE.
I checked the reviews… Apparently it's Fresh Sans's Megalovania.
“Undertale theme song”.
of COURSE.

Oh also! I would have thought “Emily hhh”, the creator of this masterpiece, would have at least changed the models a little. But no, they have.. Let's see… A ball, a girl, another ball, and one more ball.

clover.exe has stopped working

I once saw a Megalovania cover entitled “Undertale Main Theme”, and someone arguing that oF coUrSe Sans is the main character-

WELL

I'm watching a video about a bunch of animators(…?) animating(…??) themselves fighting other fangirls over Sans and I'm dying this is slightly cursed XD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du4J8QZbmAU
Oh yeah and it has weird scribble gore, so be warned
It has a strange amount of ripping body parts off with sAnS mAgIc
