I support this. It would be super helpful, especially if there was a way to have a custom sprite (one uploaded from your computer) be the default.

If we changed Scratch Cat, lots of the other sprites would have a different set style that wouldn't match up. You'd have to have them all remade, which I don't think the Scratch Team are interested in doing at the time.I

Not 100% sure but I don't think they mean redesigning the Scratch Cat. I think they're talking about the option to change the default sprite when a project is created.

In that case, no support, Scratch Cat is there for the beginner coders so they can experiment with scripts and such. Once you get into the more “advanced” areas of Scratch you usually delete the default sprite anyways. Plus, it's not too terribly difficult to just add a new costume.
