[Older Games (all platforms)]
Well, you're come to the right place! I, Neko, am a BIG fan of games. However, I couldn't find anyone who played games from a year like 1993, so I created this forum specifically for those games!Do you enjoy retro games?
If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a list of some retro games:
- Conta: Hard Corps
- Street Fighter 2 Turbo
- Streets of Rage 2
- Mortal Kombat
- Spider-Man (Sega Genesis version, 1995)
- Pac-Man
- Atari Breakout
- Tetris
The first 5 games are the ones that can be played on the Sega Genesis console. There are plenty of other ones, but those are all of the ones I've played. If there are any other games you guys like, then feel free to discuss it here!
Also, if you don't know any really old games, you can discuss older versions of games (like Minecraft Alpha) or games from the 2000s and 2010s (like the releases of Legend of Zelda.) Of course, there are already topics specifically for those games, but this is a more broad scale since I reckon many people haven't even heard of Contra or Street Fighter.
You can also discuss games from different platforms. I'm familiar with Sega Genesis games, but I know there are older games from Nintendo and other platforms.
If you don't know any old games at all, feel free to ask about them! You can play a lot of these games on online emulators, but you should definitely look for consoles. Mini-consoles can be found on the internet or at some stores at a decent price, but many of the original consoles and game cartridges aren't available to be bought anymore. If they are, they can be pretty darn expensive depending on which one it is, but an emulator works just fine (just be prepared for some really weird music!) Also, I should warn you, these games are OLD, so no hyper-realistic graphics or anything.
Anyways, that's the end of the intro, I don't expect anyone to really know any games like these but if you do, you can discuss it! I have seen that this type of forum was created before, but one forum's last post was from 5 years ago and another was closed because people were starting flame wars for whatever reason. I hope it doesn't happen with this one, but if it does I'll immediately close it. This isn't also a vague topic; it specifically addresses old games only.

YES!
This is such a good idea for a topic! I like retro video games and consoles, I like Pac-Man, Tetris, and the original Mario as well as some other NES and Genisis titles like the original 2 sonic games, and Sonic CD for the sega CD!
sorry that was kind of long lol

Oh wow! Have you played on a console? If so, which one? My grandma has a genuine Sega Genesis, but my mom found a mini version at a thrift store. YES!

While I don't always play retro games, I've played the original Pac-Man, Tetris, Atari Breakout, Pokémon Red, and Super Mario Bros (never beat it though). I dunno if it's retro, but I really adore the 1998 Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings. It's one of my favorite games of all time and will forever hold its place in my heart.

I've heard of the Earthbound trilogy (from an Undertale theory video), but I haven't played it. What's it about? It's really good. All three games have heartfelt stories, a cool battle system, and a quirky sense of humor. If you like Undertale, you'll for sure like Earthbound (Toby Fox was even heavily inspired by it). I've heard of the Earthbound trilogy (from an Undertale theory video), but I haven't played it. What's it about?
To put it simply, each game follows the story of a boy with psychic powers who meets new friends and attempts to save the world. In the first two games, the protagonists try to stop the “universal destroyer” Giygas. In the third game (probably the one with the deepest and most heartwarming story), the protagonist tries to find his long-lost brother.
If you are going to play the games, I would suggest starting with Earthbound, moving to Mother 3, and then ending with Mother 1 (which you should for sure play with a guide, i might add).

It sounds very exciting! It's kind of hard to see in which order the games are, but I'm assuming it's better to play out of order? It's really good. The games, in order of release date, go Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings -> Mother 2/Earthbound -> Mother 3. It sounds very exciting! It's kind of hard to see in which order the games are, but I'm assuming it's better to play out of order?
Yeah, I think it's best to play out of order. As much as I love Mother 1, it's harder to play and enjoy compared to the others (after all, it is the oldest).

I remember playing Pokemon Red on my 2DS. Boy, was it hard! >.< It was really interesting to see just how much more difficult compared to the newer games I had played like Y and Sun, and my rival actually defeated me! Grinding was a pain, but it was still a cool game. It's fun to see how far Pokemon as a franchise as come. (I never passed the game lol)
Sometimes I play Tetris on my Gameboy.
(gross picture of my Gameboy xD)
It's fun, but it's so hard to see and the screen is so small and my back always aches when I'm paying it, so I think I'll stick to Tetris 99. xD

I think one of the things that make older games challenging is the fact that there's no save function for a lot of them, or there's only save functions at certain checkpoints.
(I never passed the game lol)I've wanted a Gameboy for the longest time…I play Tetris almost religiously, but it's annoying to play online, especially when the power goes out. Though I suppose it makes sense, the game was making money off of copyrighted material.Yeah, me and my brother had quite a lot of progress on there. Oh, I remember that! Shame it got banned.
Anyway, so who has Nintendo Switch Online and therefore the virtual NES and SNES? I do, and Super Mario World is pretty hard to control on the Switch.
