.doc and .docx files can contain macros, and these macros can contain viruses. Word document macros are actually a pretty common form of distributing malware, even today, so I'm not sure if that would be such a good idea. .doc, .docx, .odt (microsoft word/google doc)

I think there should be a warning before you enter like this:
Warning! This file may be bad for your computer! Make sure it's from a trusted source! Proceed with caution!or something like that.

Yeah sure, viruses REALLY aren't that easy to get rid of.easy, any attached file will be scanned for viruses before the forum comment they are in is posted. if a virus is detected, a message will appear that says “a virus has been detected in the folder. you cannot post this until the folder or virus is removed.”That would be cool, but you'd want to only have specific files have the ability to be attached. What would the limits be, because you wouldn't want someone getting a virus because of the forums.like a .txt file, or .pdf, or .mp4, or .ogg, or .docx A file? Wdym by that?
I should know because I literally had to factory reset my last computer from ONE VIRUS.
No support, could easily spread viruses, malware, and even inappropriate content

I support this because sometimes you just need to be able to demonstrate something quickly, and attaching files would be nice. Would we be able to attach images? I don't use Cubeupload.

I have a feeling there would be a lot of dangerous files being spread around, whether harmful to your computer, or flat out inappropriate. I think the risk is too big, as one can easily post some, bad stuff.

*sigh* there are thousands of file hosting websites that would be allowed on scratch, why not use those instead of wasting the ST's resources that could be used for actually making the website better?

the problem with viruses and inappropriate content being spread via files is a big one, true, but that doesn't make the suggestion a bad one. all that is needed is to scan for any viruses in a file and put a ban on any user that posts a comment with a file containing inappropriate content.

Haha buying a bot which detects viruses is way to expensive for the scratch team to buy. the problem with viruses and inappropriate content being spread via files is a big one, true, but that doesn't make the suggestion a bad one. all that is needed is to scan for any viruses in a file and put a ban on any user that posts a comment with a file containing inappropriate content.
And yes that is a reason enough to make someone reject this suggestion.

Attaching malicious files, inappropriate content. Yeah, even though this would be a pretty cool feature, it'd be too easy to misuse, sorryNO!could you please elaborate on “misuse”?

Ah. In that case then I don't support sorry. As tedious as it is to make a new project every time I want to show an image I guess it's for the better (Unless I switch to cubeupload)

o.k in that case files would be treated as another type of comment, with the rules that apply to comments applying to files as well. Attaching malicious files, inappropriate content. Yeah, even though this would be a pretty cool feature, it'd be too easy to misuse, sorry

you can use assets.scratch.mit.edu to host files
https://assets.scratch.mit.edu/bf6d7bc3dc51c0ae36ca0d50105f1532.mp4
but i don't think it's very convinient for most users to do, and i'm not sure how much the scratch team likes it.
by file do you mean an image? images can be uploaded through something like cubeupload, but i have my doubts that the scratch team would add an image/file uploading to the forums either way it's something I would support.
there is a browser extenstion that adds image uploading to the forums but that's just about as much as i can say without violating a specific policy.

.sb3, .sb2, .sb, .svg I'm just gonna throw out my ideas for which files can be attached:because that's the best image format ever
.png, .jpg, .gif, .bmp (i know image hosting exists but it wouldn't make much sense not to have these)
.pdn, .mdp, .xcf (specific to certain image editing programs)
.mp3, .wav, .ogg, .flac, .m4a (sound)
.doc, .docx, .odt (microsoft word/google doc)
.txt, .log (text files)
.zip (would have to be checked to make sure it contains only allowed file types)
.exe would nOT be allowed due to viruses
I'm probably missing some here but eh

Those are other file types that could (possibly) be attachedevero.k but try and stay on topic .sb3, .sb2, .sb, .svg because that's the best image format
