Interested in applying to be a Scratch curator?

The Scratch Curator gets to select the projects that show up on the front page in the “Projects Curated by …” row. The Scratch Curator position lasts for usually two weeks and then the Scratch Team will pick another one. This topic is the place to apply!

We choose curators that represent the diversity of the Scratch Community - girls, boys, gamers, storytellers, animators - Scratchers of all kinds! We especially like to choose Scratchers who have been helpful and contributing members of the Scratch community. If you're a New Scratcher member, please wait until you know your way around and have been promoted to Scratcher before applying for the Curator position.

When applying to be curator, it's good to give some thought to the kind of projects you'd like to show. “Cool projects that most people have never seen!” is a nice idea, but it doesn't really give us a good sense of what you like and why. We want to know what makes a project interesting to you.

Try viewing the projects in your favorites, and see if you can find a theme that describes them. Or, look at the kinds of collections of projects you may have placed in Studios. Talk about that theme in your post on this thread, and consider providing a few links to good examples of that theme.

If you are selected for the Curator position, you will get a comment from a Scratch Team member telling you so - you won't see a response on this topic. And if you think of new things you want to add to your application post a long time after you first apply, it's best just to make a new post rather than editing your old one - because we go through the applications in the order they were originally posted and we might miss an old post that had been edited.

To keep things clean and simple, please don't put posts on this topic unless they are your application posts for the curator position - posts that are not applications are likely to be removed.

For more information on applying for the Curator position, kayybee has written a helpful guide over here.

Thanks - and Scratch On!

Dear Scratch Team, I saw the revived topic that used to be on the 1.4 forums and would like to request to become a curator on the Scratch homepage. I've been on Scratch for (Almost!) two years, and quitting soon, but would love it if right before I quit I could have the two week term of curating! I'm friendly, can recognize good projects and hunt down the unknown, and have fun collaborating with my friends. If I was allowed the privilege, I would curate:

  • Educational projects,
  • Unique games with fun and addicting gameplay,
  • Animations that have work put into them and are smooth and have good graphics,
  • Unknown projects
  • Simulations, I've seen some pretty great ones out there that need to be noticed.
  • Unique projects that use cloud data and other 2.0 features.
  • Paint projects,
  • Stories,
  • And smooth, fun, OSes.

I want to make those curated feel good, and those who can't be not feel bad. I wouldn't say how many “spots” I have left for projects, I don't want to make it a competition if you can enter your project in fast enough. I would just make sure that I can give as much attention as possible to each project I curate and accept as much as I can. I would be kind if telling someone that I couldn't curate their projects, and wouldn't boast at all to others if a project made it. I would try my best and strive to be a fun curator who shows great projects and has a great time!

Please consider my offer, and I hope I can someday be one who chooses the projects on the front page! ~Nomolos

here is mine.

My Form (is that what i should call it?)

If I were ever a curator, what projects would I choose?
I like games, so I would look here about every 1-2 days.
I also like cloud data projects, but surveys aren't my very favorite, I might if it had a ton of not very used features, for an example, if you could maybe… vote every __ days/hours, and would stop you from voting if your time hasn't been up yet. My favorite would be games using it, for example, a chess game using the cloud.
Now I wouldn't use projects with 25+ love-its, or 400+ views. And they have to be unique, it can't be like another pac-man game (there is so many of those!) unless if it has a twist to it.
I would want to put un-noticed projects up to the front page so people can see the projects they are missing out on!
I would also, pick 2 projects each day (resulting in 35 projects curated total, which also results in each project being on it for 2 days – i think… because amount of days (2 weeks = 14 days) divided by total amount (35) = 0.4 of a day, it would move to the next slot – and then people could be seen by the public more).

Thank you for reading,

~SFollis

Dear Scratch team

Ever since I started scratch I have wanted to be curator! Scratch is one of my most favorite things to do, I love exploring peoples imagination and viewing there dreams. I think curator is an brilliant idea, someone who finds these masterpieces and show them off saying “Look what you've missed!” I have been curated twice, The joy i felt getting about 30 messages every day was unrivaled, I would like to pass that joy onto another user who deserves the same! I would only curate projects that needed curating, not already famous ones under (20 Love-its) and (Under (500 views). I like curating these kind of projects:
  • Fun intuitive games,
    Platformers,
    Os's,
    Hard puzzlers

Please consider.

Thank you for your time.

Dear ST
Since i hear about curator,i want to be one of them. So,if you pick me as curator,i will do this.
1.Projects That I Will Pick Are
-Projects That Show Creativity on Scratch
-Minimalistic Projects
-Hardworked Games,Stories,Simulations & Interactive Art
-Educational Projects
-Fun OS
-Not a remix chain
-Under 20 Love-It's
-Cool Projects,But Unknown
-Stuff that do not take seconds to make.
-Not using other people's media
-Interactive Projects
2.Why I Want To Be A Curator
You know,i found some rude comments of Scratch, even the one that was sayed by the same person, some of the comments sayed “How about more greater programming languages like Delphi or Other?,Scratch is pwned (bad and rude word)”,see,i'm really on bad mood seeing that comment…So when i'm a curator i will pick projects that make them realize Scratch is a great programming language.
3.How I Will Pick Projects
I will make a forum post about it and tell them to post there a project that meets the rules in no.1,then i will review it and post there a list of my curated projects.

Well I had this awesome curator speech, but it turns out I don't have it. So somehow I have to retype it. Here goes:

I have been on the Scratch Transition Team for Scratchers making the Transition, and I am on the Scratch Helping Team, for Scratchers who are confused. I have also been a part of every SDS since December. I give constructive criticism and I am helpful in the community. I have been on Scratch for 2 and a half years.
I would like to be curator because I think I would benefit the Scratch Community. I would curate projects that were simple but creative, because that shows innovative use of Scratch. Those are the projects I would curator because they are not the ol' average Joe project, they're something to look at, or play, or interact with, and a project people actually want to see. The types of projects I would curate would be:

http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/10318822/ This project is fun, has good graphics, and though it's based off a well-known game, it still is a simple innovative use of Scratch programming.

http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/3183220/ This project was made in 1.4, but hey, who doesn't love retro?() It has original characters made by the author, and it's simple, and Scratchers could learn from the example of the programming using the basic blocks.

These are just two of the types of examples of projects I will curate if I am chosen.

Some rules for if I' am curator is:

1. It has to have under 20 love-its. If it is a really good project I might make an exception if it is still not well-known
2. It can't be a remix chain, it has to be good programming.
3. The user cannot have been front paged in the last 3 months. This gives other Scratchers a chance to shine.

So if I'm chosen as curator, it will be a benefit to everyone. It's a win-win-win-win (is that too many wins?) situation!

So ST, if you are looking at this, I will be very grateful if you choose me as curator.

Thanks,
~7734f

I would like to become curator for the Scratch homepage. I have been on Scratch for almost two years (on my old account tlangster), and I would love to do this. This would be something that would simply be amazing for me to do, and it is something that I have wanted to do since I joined Scratch in August 2011!

The kinds of projects I would curate are ones that took time to make. Ones that people obviously put their best feet forward to make. As long as it looks like it was well-made, and took time to make, I will wholeheartedly curate it.

I will curate projects that look like they took time to make
I will not curate projects that look like they took no time to make, or were rushed.
I will curate a variety of projects from other Scratchers.
I will NOT EVER curate my own projects.
I will curate projects that I find that look very interesting, and look very nice overall.
Unlike most other curators, I will not be accepting suggestions. Unless they are really good projects that need to be seen…
I will curate to the best I can and I will make sure that projects that should be seen, will be seen!

Please allow me the opportunity of being curator on the Scratch website!

I would like to curate, if I am chosen I would curate projects that not many people have seen or heard of. The reason I would choose these projects is because there are many unseen projects that include good graphics, original music, impressive story lines and some of which are extremely addictive.

Also if I am selected I would inform the scratchers if I have chosen their projects to curate and I would explain why.

I am on scratch pretty much every day :')

Also even though I run my own collaboration I will NOT be bias.

Thanks for reading

Could I volunteer? I will try to search for:
Educational projects,
Projects with simple programming yet fun and easy to use,
Projects that encourage remixing, (no link because I can't find one at the moment. )
And projects that I just think are awesome!
Please note that I'm not saying that I will curate these particular projects because they may have already been curated or featured, they're just an example.

Hey! I would love to be curator because there are many diverse projects out there that show people's characteristics, that teach people new information that could help in the future, that expresses what they are capable of, that shows how much people care by putting in lots of effort, time and care into it and shows potential. There are many projects out there that haven't had the many views, love-its and favourites as they should've had and I am willing to take the time to go out there and search the bundle of projects and pick them out for the whole caring community to see. Having a project curated lifts one's spirits and encourages them to keep at what they are doing - I have never had a project curated but it's always fun to see someone's reactions when they get 100s of views! It definitely puts a smile on their face!
So what exactly would I curate? There are different types (other than the ones I said) that deserve more attention. For example this was a project being worked on and I helped out. It was brilliant, complex and obvious he put time and effort into it. However, he needed help but he couldn't find all the help he would have liked and eventually gave up. If people saw this, I could almost gurantee all the attention would have given him the strength to continue and maybe find more help! Even now with Scratch 2.0, he could definitely improve it! Another example is this which also deserves plenty of likes as it was very fun to play.
In conclusion, I will favourite these types of projects of any sorts (music to games to animations etc) but have less than 10 favourites and likes but are good enough quality to be curated. Also, that are appropiate for all ages, works well online - thanks for taking the time to read my incredibly long speech and hopefully, in future, you will pick me to be curator!

I would like to apply to be a curator. I would love the position, and would choose projects I found enjoyable and that show what scratch is about.

I like these types of projects:

  • Platformers
  • Project bases (physics, platformer bases, etc.)
  • Projects that teach people about different things
  • Anything else that people put a lot of work into

One of my favorite things to do is make people happy, and I remember how happy I was when I got one of my projects curated.

I hope that you will pick me to be curator.

So anyone could become a curator? That's pretty cool. I may sign up to be one sometime.

Also, I saw on the front page "Projects Curated by OrcaCat:", is that what the curator does? How long can a curator curate?

2 weeks, anybody and it's supposed to say ‘Projects Curated by OrcaCat:’ the curator picks projects for the front page.

Hey everyone, nice to see all of the old features being added into scratch again, by the way, in case you've seen my avatar twice in this thread, this is me, someone else is also using my avatar (which they are still welcome to do btw if they are reading this)

Application thingy from P110
I would probably choose simple yet effective projects and some complex ones, I would probably choose ones which show off the new features of 2.0 especially my favorite: cloud data, and multi-player projects.

Other people have said this already but I would like to put up projects that were good quality or just interesting/funny but weren't very well known with few views and few love-its, this way people that deserve to be seen would be.

I would probably refresh the list daily not completely refresh but update some of the projects to keep it dynamic and fresh also giving more people that chance of the front page!

I would like to choose some collab projects to show the work that teams have put in, as, being in a few collabs myself when I first joined there was nothing better than when our first project hit the front page after being curated.

I love to see things that look like allot of work has gone into them, for example, the first thing I would curate would be this: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/10445559/ - It fits most of the criteria of allot of work, not much popularity, good quality, interesting and funny, simple yet effective and shows off a piece of software the scratcher made! In my opinion it is perfect for the front page

I would love to be a curator but obviously I understand if I wasn't made one, scratch has already given me allot, if someone else deserves it more, or you've already found all the curators that's fine by me

Scratch team,
If I was curator I would pick Simple projects or complex projects, But none from my friends. That would be slightly unfair. I already have a few possible projects in my favorites.. I would try not to pick any Non functional projects or projects from users that have already been featured. I would pick simple projects with not a whole lot of views or love its. UNder 40 views and under 4 love its would probably be my guideline. I've been scratching since september, but I got an account in december. I love to scratch, and I have never been frontpaged. I want others to find the joy in realizong that they were fontpaged. I mean, when I get one message, a stream of joy runs hrough my gut, so what about 30? I would pick projects that were simple or complex, games or art, new or old (basically saying, a variety.), like these:
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/3313178/
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/3289236/
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/10797242/
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/3202826/

Thanks, and I hope you pick me as curator!

Hi Scratch team! I'm D-Man9293 and I would like to be curator. My friend recently got curated and I thought, it would be cool if I could put up projects like http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/2991639/ and http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/10032194/, and then even more I can't think how awesome they would be! If I was, much to my surprise, appointed curator, I would try to let people be happy with me, and they would get their projects into top loved, maybe. Not only would it be fun, it would make me feel good, and I would like the feeling of being a curator. So please consider me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello Scratch Team, and all that are reading this,

I am interested in being Curator. I have applied before, but it's been a while. I have seen many great projects that should be featured/curated, and I would like to do that for the creator. If I was given the honor of being curator, I would curate 3 projects each day, and only projects that have less than 100 views, 10 Love-Its, and 10 Favorites.
Examples of what I would curate:
Example 1
Example 2
Stuff like that.

Thanks!
