But, like with hacked blocks, couldn't people just change the JSON?

I don't think that most people know how to use JSON. I don't know how to do it myself.

Support. Stealing has always been a big problem of scratch.

I like this idea! Also, why does this thread keep getting bumped up every two years? We already have plenty of supporters…

Support. Honestly, I've never liked remixing as a whole, since it's pretty much a “plagiarize” button to me. But at least remixing automatically gives credit. There shouldn't be a way to steal projects without giving credit.

Bunp, is there anyway to detect if the player themselves are playing a stolen copy? Making a piracy detection for my game to creep people out.

they should lock the file, and use a format other than zip for sb3

Please be constructive when making posts; no offense to you or them, but the Scratch Team implements suggestions based off of the reasoning of the supporters and not the amount of them. Additionally, it's generally good practice to be constructive, provoke discussion, and have an open mind.

Support. It's really easy to currently abuse the remix system, and this JSON will solve the problem. I'm pretty sure this will become a more known problem in the future, and new controversies will awake.

I have nothing against remixes, but I don't like, if not hate, when people don't give credit. I think that this could be a good solution.

I support this.

Same, this would make less stolen work around the website.

Recently, I found a remix of one of my projects by another scratcher (won't say their name). However, the based on <user> box was missing. As I've discovered this exploit before, I knew they must have seen inside (editor), and downloaded to their computer (file>download to computer). Then they would create a new project (on the website) and import my project into their project.
Exact same thing happened to my remake of Fortnite Battle Royale as another scratcher did the exploit and made a game called Zone cube wars without giving credit. 100% support.

I 100% bet you guys the ST won't add this like they do with everything else but I guess I will bump it.

If this is possible I fully support. No need to have morons Scratchers going around the site and taking lots of credit. I don't see why this is unnecessary.

I support this. However what if someone made a new account and moved all of their projects to the new account by importing/exporting projects because the remix thing made the instructions and notes to small. I feel like the owner of the original project it is detected of a remix for should be able to remove the this project is a remix of thing if it is marked as a remix from this.
The system should automatically detect if the two exactly same projects are from the same IP address owner and if it's the same then the system won't mark the project a remix.

This would have little to no issues (it works on any account or when signed out) and most people don't know how to do JSON hacking. This would prevent the ‘remix hacking’ by 95% (source: my brain)

Yknow, just as a punishment, it shouldn't say remixed, it should say stolen instead.
Like when you remix a stolen project, it just says (Stolen Project) instead of (Remixed Project). It'd teach people to not steal projects
or it could say something like “This project has been downloaded; here it's the original {project link}”

Support, y'all if you're gonna make changes like bug fixes to a project, REMIX BUTTON OMG IT EXISTS USE IT! So yeah, it's annoying to find a non-remix of a hardworked project.

I had an idea for how the scratch website would detect this. Basically, project files would include the user name of the user who created them. That way, downloading a project someone else made will remember that that other person made the project.
