My starter concepts I had a while ago don't seem to fit the ‘rules’ for starters, so I thought I'd start of from scratch to fit those rules. I know the rules aren't official and may only be a coincidence, but it's a lot of fun to work with constraints so I'll be following them. The final evolutions will also be anthropomorphic to some extent too, since that also seems to be a trend.
Grass: The rule for grass starters is that they resemble extinct animals at some point in their lineage. Bulbasaur line resembles dicynodonts, Chikorita's evolutions are sauropods, Grovyle resembles dromaeosaurids etc. My grass starter will based on drepanosaurus unguicaudatus (here's a reconstruction I like more.) Drepanosaurus was an arboreal archosauromorph from a group known as the ‘monkey reptiles,’ so I think it'd be perfect for a grass type. Drepanosaurus' hump reminds me of hunch-backed cartoon villains, so my grass starter will have a sinister personality and be part dark type.
Fire: The rule for fire starters is that they're based on chinese zodiac signs. They don't have to be based on the exact animal, but they do need to resemble it. Charizard is the dragon, Typhlosion is the rat, Blaziken is the rooster etc. My starter will be based on the goat, more specifically an ibex. Ibexes are undeniably rad as heck and deserve representation in Pokemon. The final evolution will be a rough & tough ground type mountaineer that can detach its horns to use as weapons. Being a mountaineer, Pokedex entries will mention that it uses its horns as ice axes outside of battle.
Water: The rule for water starters is that they're based on amphibious animals. Squirtle's line are turtles, Totodile's line are alligators, Mudkip's line are mudskippers etc. It took me a while to come up with the animal for this one. The first thing that came to mind was a platypus, one of my favourite mammals. But I already have plans for an electric/poison platypus, and I'm not going to reuse animals in the same generation. The next idea that came to mind was a marine iguana that would evolve to resemble Gojira. Then I remembered, we already have a starter Pokemon based on Gojira so I couldn't do that. My next idea was a giant salamander but Quagsire is already a perfect one of those. Finally, I've decided to base my starter on the magnificent frigatebird. The final evolution would be what else but a pirate captain, with a crest resembling a pirate hat and a big ol' Jolly Roger on its gular sac. Rather than being flying type, it would be steel type with rough and hardened feathers, similar to Perrserker's fur. Pokemon fans have also noticed a weapon theme in water starters. It's absent in Feraligatr, Swampert, and Primarina but I may as well include it anyway. My frigatebird starter will have an extra large feather resembling a scimitar that it can pull out to use as a sword.
I'll expand on these concepts later.

i like that you're finding animals that are a bit less well-known. there's so many fan-made starters that are based on the same things.
and i also love the personalities you're giving them

Thank you! Well known animals usually aren't that interesting to me compared to less talked about ones. Most of the time, anyway. It's hard to doubt the radness of a bat or dolphin. My starter concepts I had a while ago don't seem to fit the ‘rules’ for starters, so I thought I'd start of from scratch to fit those rules. I also had a look earlier in the thread and I reeaally like your grass/ghost therapsid. Non-reptilian extinct animals are incredibly underrated.
You should totally make that manatee fakemon too. Aquatic mammals are cool as heck.

Hello! I'm new here. Anyway, I'd like to say I'm making a Pokemon game!
Introducing Pokemon Spirit and Ghost! Click on the link to go the official studio, where you can see the progress being made on the games!
Region
Welcome to the Alium region! This region is based off the USA (But has many Pokemon that are based off of animals that don't live there), and is very diverse. There are plains, forest, swamps, and many more biomes as well.
Pokemon
There are going to be 110 original Pokemon in this region, as well some other regional variants!
-The grass starter is Gritzle, a baby bear Pokemon that uses a stick as a weapon. They are usually very curious and adventurous.
-The fire starter is Hedge, a hedgehog Pokemon that is very quiet and shy. It's needles are incredibly hot, and can be shaken off at any time.
-The water starter is Plattio, a platypus Pokemon that gets around by bouncing on it's tail. They're very playful and cheerful all the time.
Gimmick
In Gen 6, there was mega evolution. In Gen 7, there were Z-Crystals. In Gen 8, there is Dynamaxing. What about my game? In Pokemon Spirit and Ghost, the evil team, Team Robotic, has created a special form for Pokemon. Introducing the Robot Form of Pokemon! If your Pokemon becomes robotized, it will resist every single type and have much more health. This form only lasts for 3 turns, and only certain Pokemon can do it. Also, it can only be activated once during battle.
Theme
The theme is life and death, sort of like X and Y. Except, Xerneas and Yveltal keep the balance of life and death on Earth, whereas these legendaries just watch over the spirits in heaven and the ghosts in the underworld. For Pokemon Spirit, the legendary is a majestic Phoenix, and for Pokemon Ghost, it's a dark dragon.
Evil Team
So, basically the evil team, Team Robotic (They use steel types a lot) wants to take over the world, surprise, surprise, so they invent a special form for Pokemon called Robotic forms. You heard about them up top . With these strong Pokemon they're undefeatable, so they try to bring Demorb (the Ghost Legendary) to Earth. Demorb is super powerful. Sometimes Demorb and Spitra (The Spirit Legendary) come to Earth for a bit. During one of these time periods, the evil team goes to Demorb and controls it with a special machine they invented. After that, you go to their hideout and battle Demorb. After a long battle, turns out it was a ditto! Team Robotic was already busy taking over the world with it! You go outside and see the massive destruction caused. If you are playing Pokemon Ghost, you have to catch Demorb to stop the destruction. It's an EPIC battle! If you're playing Pokemon Spirit, you have to catch Spitra. In Pokemon Spirit, knowing the Earth is in trouble Spitra comes to Earth and let's you catch it.You take down Demorb with Spitra and the world is saved. The evil team goes to jail. You become champion.

So, I once had an idea for a Pokemon game called Pokemon Order and Chaos. The region would be based off of Canada(and the professor would be named Professor Maple, of course), and the legendaries for the region would be a moose and a beaver.
These would be the starters:
A fire type based off of a bombadier beetle, which evolves into a fire-poison type
A water type based off of a albatross, which evolves into a water-flying type
A grass type based off of a komodo dragon, which evolves into a grass-electric type
I haven't really thought of anything else other than that the bird pokemon of the region would be based off of a canada goose.

yooo it's nice to see folks making so many fakemon/fan pokemon game ideas
I once had an idea for a set of Pokemon games titled Pokemon Nature and Pokemon Techno. The legendaries were a fire ant queen that was Bug/Fire type and some strange… music playing robot that started out as Steel/Electric. Like Cosmog, they would be able to evolve (but only once, not twice), the robot becoming Steel/Poison type for some reason (probably because I saw that there were no Pokemon with that type combo and wanting to make my own, also wow pollution exists). The queen ant also looked way too much like UB Beauty for some reason.I LIKE THIS! especially the idea of befriending the legendary instead of catching it, because that makes much more sense than Random Child Catches Literal God. and i'd love to be friends with a fiery queen ant and a music playing robot. music-based magic is a very easy way to my heart
The gimmick of these guys is that they would be able to summon these weak minion Pokemon to protect them. They were also designed to be impossible to catch, because their minions would protect them with their power (I came up with this idea because of complaints I heard people made about a child being able to catch a literal god that were given to official Pokemon games). Instead, you would be able to befriend the wild legendary over the course of the story, and at some points, call it for assistance during a battle.

snipI love the “befriending the legendary” idea, as well as the legendaries themselves! Man, I wish I had (could befriend) a cool-looking music-playing Steel-Poison robot (please give it levitate). The “minions” idea seems nice, like a throwback to the SM/USUM Totem Pokémon days.
I love the starters! From the descriptions, I think I would choose the Tasmanian Devil, to be honest. The choice was pretty hard, I liked all three of them!
The “your mom is a professor” and the “your dad is the leader of an evil team” ideas are very creative. I always wondered why your ingame mom had little-to-no involvement with the story, and I hope being a professor will change that.

Pokémon Earth and Sky
cliché, I know
The Region
I don't know what exactly I'm going to call the region, but it's going to be situated in India (I’m surprised how few people have made a region off of it). As such, there are several cool landmarks, diverse Pokémon species, sprawling citylines, and lots of lore. Each area has its own culture, with different traditions, lifestyles, foods, and even dialects. People from all over the Pokémon world come to the region to sightsee, train, and partake in the bustling economy. There are tropical forests, snowy regions, a beach, mountains, and several caves. All the better to explore!
(8 cities with Gyms, 6 cities without Gyms, 22 routes (or more), an open-world area, 1 mountain range (which conceals a snowy city), 1 beach, 3 tropical forests, 5 caves. Of course the snowy region will be based off of countries above India)
The Pokémon
Not including regional variants, the region will have upwards of one hundred Pokémon. Sprites are not 3D, but they are in vector, and are based on the SwSh large box sprites. I will try to make the regional dex as large as possible.
New Pokémon are based on wildlife native to the region.
The starters (i don’t have definite names yet) are a small deer which grows bushes on its horns as it evolves (Final Type: Grass/Fight, based off of the Chittal Deer), a snake which grows a cobra’s hood and can shoot plumes of fire from its mouth (Final Type: Fire/Poison, based off of snakes in general), and a duck which evolves into a swan which evolves into a crane. The crane draws most of its power from a veil of water, and can control the water’s movements as it swims/flies (Final Type: Water/Fly, first evo and all others are based off of the Indian Spot-Billed Duck). Regional bird is a crow or pigeon (probably, but those were already done in gens 8 and 5). Regional bug is a mosquito (do you know how many mosquitos there are in India? I bet you don't).
The legendaries are a Ground/Steel elephant with gems embedded into its body, and a Fairy/Flying peacock with a tail that brings about rainbows. There is also an Electric-type monkey, which represents the spirit of humankind and the desire to live.
Usually, the elephant resides deep underground, rarely surfacing. It provides comfort to Ground-types.
The peacock can be found somehow making a nest among the clouds, and serves as a friend to Flying-types.
The monkey, while friendly, is strangely solitary, and spends most of its time roaming the Earth at very high speeds.
The elephant and the peacock have a Drawn forme and a Spread forme. The Drawn forme ups Speed. The more flamboyant Spread forme lowers Speed but increases Attack and Defense on the elephant, and Sp. Atk and Sp. Def on the peacock.
All three legendaries, as well as the several other legendaries and mythicals are considered minor deities. Sighting any of them is considered a sign of prosperity (wisdom for the elephant, wealth for the peacock, and energy for the monkey).
Theme
The theme talks about the line between traditions and progression. Should we focus on the past and learn from it or look to the future and bring change? That is the question that is abuzz about the region.
Characters
Honestly, I like the idea of removing the “silent protagonist” and letting your player speak to other people. I'm not sure if I actually want to do it, though.
You will have 3 main rivals throughout your journey about the region. (I dunno if I want to let the player name them)
The professor is Professor Banyan. He does not actually live in your hometown, but visits to distribute Pokémon to you and your friends as part of his “Pokémon for All” project. He does not understand the appeal of the battling you all so fervently admire, but is cheering for you nonetheless. You, Akhil, and Rohan/Shriya all receive starter Pokémon. Akhil chooses the starter weak to yours, while your protagonist counterpart chooses the starter strong to yours. Lyko already has a Pokémon, so he has no need for a starter.
The Gym Leaders' types go Grass -> Water -> Fire -> Electric -> Bug -> Flying -> Ground -> Steel. Your usual grass-water-fire lineup, then a couple of other types without SwSh reps. I’m going to try to make their movesets as competitive as possible, to really try and drive the “you actually need to be good to be the champion” point home. The Elite 4 types are Normal, Ice, Psychic, and Dragon (I actually do not know or care for your sister’s type. It’s currently Dragon, but that’s a placeholder and can be changed).
Evil Team
Team Languish believes that Pokémon should be free to explore. While they understand and respect that Pokémon are often happy with their trainers, they are strictly against urban expansion into the habitat of Pokémon who live there. They believe that building routes detracts from the Pokémon properly living out their life, and admire facilities like the Wild Area. Their leader is aiming to destroy all routes and let the Pokémon run free about the open-world area. However, in order to sway the people, they will need the help of the legendaries. Throughout the game, they attempt to summon both legendaries using curious artifacts and sayings. The one you do not catch will be battled first, while your game’s box legendary will be battled later. The last legendary will come on its own, and can be battled after you defeat the Team Languish Boss.
Team Languish specializes with Grass, Ground, Rock, and Bug types - your typical “nature” types, and you cannot just sweep their entire teams with one Pokémon. Hopefully, they will require strategy to beat.
Gimmick
No gimmick this gen. Just more megas (hopefully every ace in the game gets a mega). Z-moves are revived (new signature Z-Crystals are created). Dynamax is allowed, with more Gigantamax formes and moves. However, since Power Spots are exclusive to Galar, you will need an item that produces the required Dynamax Energy, and a separate item that produces Gigantamax Energy. This is so that you can’t do combinations of Dynamax and Z-Moves/Megas, and so that all individuals of a species can be capable of G-max.
…aaand that's all folks. it seems really formulaic so i might add more cool things

You will have 3 main rivals throughout your journey about the region. (I dunno if I want to let the player name them)
- Akhil is your little brother, and is overwhelmed by how accomplished your family is in Pokémon. Your Mom is the champion, and your sister is the final Elite 4 member. He sets off on this journey trying to stand out, and trying to beat you. You have to help him realize that the most important thing is to have fun. (If I didn't use new Pokémon as aces, it would probably be Breloom/Lopunny)
- The two player characters are Rohan (the boy) and Shriya (the girl). The protagonist you do not pick will become your second rival and childhood friend. Rohan/Shriya is spunky, sharp, and determined to beat you. As someone who has read up on competitive Pokémon, they are sure that they can win if they have a perfectly competitive team, with perfectly viable Pokémon. However, this causes them to shun less viable Pokémon, Pokémon that they might like. You need to help them realize that they should win with the Pokémon they love. I can see a little bit of myself within these characters, as someone who is constantly judgmental about a Pokémon’s viability. (Ace is Excadrill/Gliscor. They'll probably have different teams but I don't know which ace to give to who)
- The mysterious Lyko has just moved to the region, and tries to act like a “quiet, mature, tough anime guy” (think N). However, he ends up looking hilarious. He has already received his first Pokémon, and believes that he knows all there is to know about battling. He doesn’t like your region because of how colorful it is, and wants to become Champion as an act of defiance against it. Your job is to teach him humility, and to help him be himself. (Ace is Lucario/Lycanroc.)

(hee hee, bump)That sounds really cool! I love how they have uses outside of just being Pokémon (namely, a hospital bed). For a Pokémon to be used medically, I feel like it has to be friendly, so maybe the bed could bring good dreams to patients resting on it!
So, I just remembered another fakemon I made when I was younger. It was a pillow with tiny wings that evolves into a bed with eyes on the pillows and a ton of sharp teeth under the bed. They were Psychic-Flying type (might've been better as ghost type, idk), and they would read people's dreams, or eat them or something, it's been a while since I had the book I drew them in. The first stage was very mischievous and would mess with people who mistook them for a real pillow. The evolution was often used for a hospital bed (for reasons I don't remember), and always liked to keep its bedsheets nice and clean. The constantly shadowy space underneath the bed Pokemon was said to be some kind of portal, as whatever goes underneath never comes out.
