Keyboard Shortcuts

While I was making an animation on Scratch, I was using the stamp tool quite a lot (the stamp the costumes tool, not the block). I noticed that if you were going to make a super-long animation, it would get annoying to keep on going to the top of the screen for the tools. If Scratch had keyboard short cuts (command c to copy a scratch block, command v to paste it anywhere in a sequence, command z to undo, command y to redo, shift for stamp tool, ex.), it would be much easier for Scratchers to use the editor easily and effectively.

Emoji

Wouldn't it be cool to have all the tools we have in the discuss section while making comments? I know it's not necessary, but it would be a lot of fun!

Discuss in the What's Happening

It would be awesome to have what you're up to in the discuss section of Scratch show up in your What's Happening box! It would make solving bugs and glitches easier for the Scratch Team, easier advertising without being obnoxious, and finding out about cool projects easy (yeash, that's a lot of ‘easies’ ).

Please consider these changes, it would make Scratch a whole lot more fun and easy to work with

1. Support. I am always frustrated when I press ‘b’ and the tool does not switch to the brush.
2. This could cause even more spamming.
3. I don't quite understand what you're suggesting here…

1. I support!
2. No, not really.
3. I'm not completely for or against you. It seems interesting, but for the people that make A LOT of posts each day, it's not worth having all of it shown in their “What's Happening”.

What he means is that when you make a post, it shows up as an action in the “What's Happening” part of your profile. The part where it shows projects you just favorited, loved, or shared.

Actually, you can copy paste costumes. (control c {copy}, control v{paste}] And I totally support the Emoji idea! And yeah, it would be cool for discuss stuff to appear in the what's happening box. And what about replying to discuss stuff? (I mean, we have quotes, but not replies.) The replies would show up in the messages box.

Here's my opinion

I support! People say that you have emojis for comments that are not in the forums, then there will be spam. But people can spam in forums too, and I have never seen anyone spam them there.

So your saying that the shortcuts are only for Mac users because of the command key? What about the Windows users?

Evidently, -Hailstorm- is not familiar with Windows.

Replace “Command” with “Control” for Windows keyboards and it works on Windows.

I support keyboard shortcuts, but no Emoji, and your forum suggestion isn't quite making sense to me…

I love the keyboard shortcut idea.

When your mouse is chilling over the blank area in the block editor,
I propose these helpful suggestions:

The number keys open the various tabs.
There are ten of ‘em, so -

1 = Motion
2 = Looks
3 = Sound
4 = Pen
5 = Data
6 = Events
7 = Control
8 = Sensing
9 = Operators
0 = More Blocks

Space = clean up

These would be my main suggestions. The “clean up” one especially, ’cuz I use that all the time.
If you wanted to add math operators, that might be easy, as the keyboard already has rather appropriate symbols for many of them.

+ = add operator
- = subtract
* = multiply
/ = divide

< = less than
> = greater than
? = random number
~ = round
& = and
| = or
! = not (alternatively, one could use the \ key because it looks like a slashed out sign,
like “do not enter,” plus it's the same as the “or” key, which would make it easy to remember.)

Again, I'd be happy if we just got the Spacebar to be a shortcut for “clean up”
but as long as we're brainstorming, we could give the most commonly used blocks keys, such as:

D = pen Down
U = pen Up
I = If __ then
E = if __ then __ Else
G = go to x0, y0
M = move 10 steps
{ = turn left 15 degrees
} = turn right 15 degrees
P = point in direction 90
T = point Towards __
S = Stamp
$ = Show (also an S like sign, and people put on a show to make $)
H = Hide
C = Clear

These are, of course, just suggestions, but I'd like to think they are very good ones.
Holler back any thoughts or approval!

  1. Support, I guess. However, that would also include adding a clipboard to the Scratch editor… or adding the ability for the editor to access the computer's clipboard. That is possible, as I have had other websites ask if they could use my clipboard (like on Google Drive).
  2. No support. Comments are supposed to be quick and simple, not long and drawn out conversations. That's what the forums are for.
  3. Eh… Don't really see the need for it. No support.

3. I'm on the forums a lot. My followers don't follow me to see my forum posts, they do it for my projects. They would get tons of what's happening things.

Woah! Pretty old…

Anyway,

1. Support. However, there should be a guide to it.
2. Sure! But could cause spam…
3. Meh… I dont know about that. Semi support. Alot of posts per day. Also, I don't find it useful to report bugs. I think the bugs and glitches forum is just fine!
