I hate the new Paint Editor. It disgusts me to the very top.

How about giving some constructive criticism?

In other words…

How could it be made better?

One thing I'd like, is arrow key movement for the cursor while the mouse button is held down.

Like if your holding down the mouse button while using the paintbrush/costume centerer if you press the arrow keys it will move the brush/cursor etc. one unit/pixel in the appropriate direction. Yay or nay?

I was the same as you not far back, but they added the bitmap first off and second off they're not done developing it yet.

My two biggest complaints? 1. Moving around the text is so much harder now and the selector almost never selects the text.
2. 480 x 360 is practically a crime. First because it's so low res and second because games should not ever be in 4:3. A 1920 x 1080 max size (along with adjusting the aspect ratio) would be very helpful.

I love the new editor.

I just think it bitmap should be a vector bitmap cross.
By that I mean you can paint stuff on the canvas, but you can move text around without them bitmap-iffying

I agree there, resizing projects would be awesome. As for OP, constructive criticism might help the Scratch Team make it better.

Are you sure you are in vector mode?

Vector, by definition is infinitely un-pixellated.

That may be a glitch, can you explain how it happened, are you sure it isn't just a mistake. Even zoomed in it should be crisp.

I hate that there's only one option for the fill bucket..

EXACTLY!!! IT'S STILL IN BETA! Maybe the ST would have an easier time improving the Paint Editor if they didn't have to sift through all the Forums posts saying, “The Editor Sucks!”

Again, they're still working on it. I want it to work more like the old 1.4 Paint Editor, but making these things take time and testing. Might I remind everybody that the whole POINT of letting us see the Beta is to let us TEST it so our feedback can improve it. Please be considerate of this.

On a side note, Vector Editor is actually quite developed. We still lack fill gradients, but with the Reshape tool, you can create decent pictures and graphics for things. Bitmap is the most Beta-ish thing here, as it was only RECENTLY released and hasn't had much time to be improved.

So my whole point is, HELP it get better instead of whining. Testing the Beta is a PRIVILEGE.

i like the scratch 2.0 editor it has more features.

The Scratch 1.4 and 2.0 Paint Editors automatically zoom images to 200%. Are you sure you're not accidentally viewing an image close-up?

How to say it… I import a 16x16 sprite, and it appears on the screen 16 x 16, but in the editor, if I use, for example, the pen tool at thinest line, it makes lines that are half a pixel wide. The editor has twice as much resolution than that which is showed on small screen. On full screen,this changes, as everythign is streched, so vector images look good except for the BG, which glitches in this situation…


So, if I want a coin that is 8x8 in small screen and 16 x 16 in full screen, I import a 16x16 coin and scale it in the editor to half size, keeping its resolution, except in small screen. This way, in small screen it appears ok, and full screen appears perfect.

Now lets say I want to do this with the BG. I'd need to use a 960x720 image, but the editor will scale it to twice it size, making only a fourth of the image to appear, and that that quarter appears blurry on fullscreen!

In the new scratch there is no scale option, no flip option, no import option, and you can only use small text.

To be honest, the double-res bitmap editor is a little weird for my liking. It does enable the sprite to look better using the SIZE effect blocks though.

We could have a single-res and double-res mode.
